Anyone on this for anxiety? Don't want to rely on benzos, so I'm trying to look for an alternative. Is it okay to take long term on a low dose?(I am aware of the liver damage reports but want to know if anyone here has taken it with no issues)

Im already on tryptophan but some residual anxiety still persists. Experimented with L-theanine but it caused headaches. Thanks a bunch!

you know my herbal is actually recommended this herb for anxiety is well. I'm currently on a benzo and have been since March and it's time to get off of it all together so she suggested to take this herb. but I can't do both so I have to get off the benzo in order to start this herb. I heard you're not supposed to be on it for a very long time but at least a good news is that it is natural. I wish I could tell you more but I've heard nothing but good things so good luck.

Look into Avena Sativa - oat tops in the 'milky stage'. I've been using that to help my anxiety for a couple of years now - it also helps with tingling and numbness for me.

Also be sure that your adrenals are working properly - a 24 hour saliva test is the most accurate.

Thank you guys! Traveler- who doesn't have wonky adrenals? I am supporting my adrenals with some herbs but not sure if it makes a difference. Have you tried isocort?

How do you use kava kava? Daily? And at what dose? I seem to have anxiety daily. I was thinking of taking it daily for a month and then a few days off and then on a month again. Lets say its not doing anything for the moment.. Would it hurt to take a benzo in addition.

I tend to get anxious when taking any new supplement and have benzos on the side just in case of an adverse effect. I dont want to overdose or something. Also can i take it with tryptophan?

Also, im allergic to gluten and oats.. Is avena sativa the same?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'm going to look into that "Avena Sativa" as long as it doesn't have sulfur or anything like that.

I will do some research on it.

I have heard that Kava Kava is very strong TootsieRoll (love the name by the way)!

If you are allergic to oats, please stay away from Avena Sativa!! It is oats!!!

Also, watch your liver if using Kava kava - it's known to cause liver toxicity and other liver issues. Since Lyme can be quite hard on our livers, I would encourage you to work closely with a doctor to watch for issues.

And no, it would not be wise at all to take a Benzo if the Kava kava didn't 'do the trick'. They act on the same pathways of the brain, if I understood what I've read.

There is a ton of information out there on Kava kava, please be sure to educate yourself on it to determine if it's right for you, what to watch for, and what dose. I feel it's always best to work with a Herbalist or other natural medicine practitioner.
