I was diagnosed with Lyme in June of this year.  I am not sure how long I have had Lyme, as I dont remember seeing a tic. At the time I was diagnosed I had the rash and severe neck pain. I did a 3-week round of antibiotics.  The rash and neck pain disappeared.  However, I had a blood test in August that was still positive for Lyme.  The Dr said some people will always test positive, not to worry unless I started feeling bad again. Well about 3-4 days ago I suddenly started having severe pain in my jaw, similar to what I think TMJ must be like.  It came on so suddenly I am wondering if it is related to the Lyme.

Am I getting bad medical advice? Should I demand more blood tests>? Another round of antbiotics?

Yes, TMJ, or jaw pain in general can be from Lyme. I would demand more abx, but I would also find a Lyme Literate Dr, so you can make sure you get the right treatment. This disease is much easier to get rid of if you treat it right in the beginning, and there's more than enough people on here, who I'm sure would agree, most Dr's have no clue what they're doing when it comes to this...best to skip all the BS, and go straight to someone who knows what they're doing.

It will, IMO, save you money, time, and most importantly, your health.

First of all make sure your doctor has tested you for co-infections, such as mycoplasma, Rocky Mountain fever, babesia, and other potential ailments. Also, I'd like to add that you may need a more aggressive treatment. However I it's just jaw pain I would personally wait it out to see if it goes away on its own. One thing that helped me after my 3 month treatment of doxycycline was crushing raw garlic with a mincer and letting it sit out for ten minutes before drinking the water. I do around 2-4 cloves a night and get it down by taking it like a pill with water. It worked wonders with fatigue and brain fog. It's notoriously known for it's anti biotic, anti parasitic and anti fungal properties. Hope you heal over time. If you're still having trouble email me at [email protected]. PS, I had Lyme disease for 8 years and have gained a lot o knowledge and tricks to dealing with lingering symptoms. So I understand what you are going through.

Hi puma I was diagnosed and given 100 mg of doxy twice a day. As soon as I stopped the medicine I relapsed. Mine was neuro involvement and started with stiff neck went into cognitive memory problems and visual disturbance and many other issues. Only much higher doses of abx are even touching this infection. Find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor as soon as possible. They are experts in the disease and will be able to help you. Good luck.

Welcome to our forum! We have a lot of helpful members on here as you can see! I would recommend seeking treatment from an ILADS trained physician. If you check out our "New to Lyme thread, start here!" It has information on how you can find doctor referrals, including on this site!

You will see lots of folks will start a thread "Searching for LLMD in _____". I think best recommendations are personal but I also have some names as well if you would like to send me an email. I am in the same boat as BarnGurl and after 30 days of doxy got very sick, very fast off of medicine and had a long wait to get in to see a real dr to help me.
