Good Morning everyone!! I was wondering if anybody thinks it is safe for us to get a flu shot? Normally I don't get one, thought it might be a good idea?  confused

I was always wondering the same thing. I am so glad you posted that question.

I did get the flu shot last year. I was fine with it. I usually don;t get the flu. I feel though that I have enough problems and don't want to get it. You never know as you get older and have lyme what you can get or not get.

I don't have an answer but I hope other people will chime in with some good advice.

Normally it's not good to get a flu shot because our immune systems are already quite busy with these infections and viruses that we carry. Intentionally introducing another virus or bacteria when a person's immune system is compromised isn't a good thing - usually.

With that said, some do get one and do fine. For me when I was ill with these infections, I had two flu shots and both times I had a really bad case of the flu very shortly afterwards. That is the typical reaction.

It's usually best to just avoid places where the flu will go around heavily - schools or anywhere there are a lot of young children, large crowds, public restrooms and places like that. Extra hand washing and using hand sanitizer always helped me a lot when the flu would come through my area....and staying home as much as possible.

We can't all do that, so it's usually best to talk it all over with your LLMD - because he/she understands the real threat to your health - and discuss your exact situation. If you are a school teacher, hospital worker, or something like that, of course you can't avoid those places and need some kind of protection.

It might be a good idea to research exactly what goes into a flu shot. I know that they use heavy metals in them, as well as Formaldehyde, which is something I personally do not want either inside of me, or on my skin (that's why I ALWAYS wash purchased clothing BEFORE I wear! They put formaldehyde onto the fabrics!!)

They also put Thimerosal into the vaccine, which is mercury!! Although, this is used "only in multi-dose vials of flu vaccine," which all of the vaccines given are for/from multi-dose vials, as it's too expensive to dose out single doses, so it's all multi-dose, which means you would be putting MERCURY inside of your body. Just to name one foreign, harmful ingredient. Research what mercury does if ingested, even a tiny amount.

If we are working so hard to heal and eradicate foreign matter from our bodies, why put more harmful things back inside our body?

Research for yourselves; look at both sides of the debate. Be informed.

Read between the lines, and research what the ingredients are before making a decision that could be very harmful, even if one isn't dealing with Lyme disease. This would harm even healthy people.

My personal opinion is to not take a chance because besides possibly getting the flu from it you can get a potentially fatal disease called Guillain-Barre Syndrome. They say it's like a million to one odds but it's not true as I know three people who got this from the flu shot and luckily they lived but have permanent issues from it. Granted I come across more people than most owning a store but still there is that potential and it's a very scary one.

I do not get the flu shot. Something I read awhile ago says to shower every night and gargle with salt water, and the steam and salt helps kill any flu germs that may entered the body.

Personally, I do not recommend anyone getting a flu shot or vaccine.  I agree with what everyone said here.  If you bing or google Dr. Mercola you can read the ingredients in these vaccines as In_A_Cocoon_Now stated:

As Traveler said, people should wash their hands a lot especially when they are in contact with lots of other people, schools, etc.

My first Mom-in-Law got the flu vaccine last year and became very ill from it.  She thought she was going to die from being so sick from that vaccine. 

Again, do your research.  I'm very healthy (no lyme) and no way would I get a flu vaccine, never had and never will.  The ingredients in these vaccines scare me!   shocked

I've never gotten the flu and never had a flu shot - enough said. :) I also work in a low risk area as I deal with plants and not people.

Well I think that about sums it up....no flu shot for me. Im a nurse, and they are pusing us more and more to get one. Guess I can use this dreaded illness as an excuse!! I think our flu season around here is gonna start early sad Lots of strep throat and bronchitis already!!

I have never gotten a flu shot in my life... for the reasons mentionned above.

Touch wood, but I maybe got the flu twice in my life... Lots and lots of bronchitis and a few times pneumonia, but the flu, I can't even remember well...

Although it's been 2 years now since I last had the flu, I had a double whammy of it! Hubby had a trip and I had a real bad intestinal flu where I had 5 days in bed not keeping any thing down or in. When he got back, I shared. smilewinkgrin Although his wasn't as bad fortunately, but then I got an upper respiratory/head thingy and was down for the count again for another 5 days!! So I have a "special" memory of when I last had the flu. shakehead

I got the swine flu that was going around few yrs back!!! Wow!! That was awful! Thought I was gonna die!!

I think my daughter got that swine flu too, but it turned out to be a good thing for her since her thyroid function improved afterwards. I think it was the high fever.

The flu season started about a month ago here.

I am not getting the flu shot this year I asked my LLND and she said she didn't recommend it. I got the flu last year and was really sick. I want to get the flu shot but I am so sick with this infection that I feel it might compromise my immune system further and I would get sick from the shot somehow.
