So my LLMD prescribed me cefdinir rifampin and flaygl

I was unable to tolerate the cefdinir it killed my stomach I tried toughing the pain out for a

few days but LLMD told me to stop it and switched it to ceftin.

I am a week in and so far no stomach problems but do you guys think it will be as affective as the cefdinir?

Also I am starting to get really itchy in my legs and my face is a tint red and a little itchy.

Do you guys thinks it is a herx or a allergic reaction?

Should I tough it out or take benadryl or something?

On a side note the flaygl wont be started for another week 1 day a week for 2 weeks then 2x a day after that.

My LLMD wont be available to talk to until monday.

I am drinking lemon water and doing epsom salt footbaths to detox.

Hi T,

I was on ceftin as my primary lyme drug and it worked well for me. I did not herx on it until about two weeks in. Super space-cadet, fuzzy, 'off-balance' and then super thirsty - insane thirsty and then I was fine. I would say there is no reason not to take an allergy medicine - try it and see how you feel.

I was on claritin or something else my whole first month of treatment b/c it felt hard for me to breathe. I didn't know at the time that it was a herx. Once I learned more and that anti-histamines can reduce your immune response I stopped but after a month the bacterial load was down and I no longer had trouble breathing.

I did not even know cefdinir was used for lyme.

I am not sure whether it is the ceftin or the rifampin that is causing me to be itchy. I have taken the ceftin at a high dose for 20 days with no problem and I have been taking the rifampin with ceftin together for

about a week. My face is starting to feel a little irritated and itchy as well as slightly red and I can tell my pours are bigger than usual. I get an unexplained it on different parts of my body throughout the day. I

don't know which one is causing it if any of them and I don't want to stop taking them because I am
seeing progress. Not really sure what to do. Wondering if this is a herx or allergic reaction. Maybe it will

pass in a few days? Maybe from New England whether change. It is really annoying though. One thing after another with this disease.

Yes I agree. Most likely it is nothing to worry about but worth keeping an eye on for sure. There is some concern with Rifampin in regards to kidneys which effect endocrine glands, skin etc etc but it is relatively rare. Just keep an eye on it.

My skin has been wacky the past few weeks.

Itching can be a side effect of this disease. It drove me crazy for awhile. Now it is only intermittant. It is very hard to distinguish between symptom and a med reaction, unfortunately. As others have said just keep an eye on it.

Its been two days and I'm still itchy. It is mostly my face. I took benadryl to see if that helped but I keep falling asleep on it so I can't really tell. I am going to have to go with no? I guess I am going to just continue to take the meds until I can call my LLMD on tuesday as I don't want to stop my treatment.

Be a scientist Tbrown! Stop your medicine for a day or two and see if the skin reaction goes away. Or maybe cut your dose in half and see what happens. Unfortunately it is really all each o fus can do to figure out what is causing what!

Hi Tbrown....I had the itchiness as well. I chalked it up to herxing although it easily could have been reaction to abx as well. It lasted a few weeks on and off and passed. Hope you are feeling better.

I was on cefdinir with the rash. I read on Dr Jone's site that it can be construed as a die off and it is a good sign. It means the meds are working. My doc said not to take meds on empty stomach and to take with food and fiber. I never had an issue taking it like that. The cednifir kills the neuro issues which for me dizziness was very bad. I can take one if Im a little dizzy and it will stop instantly. It has been a godsend for me.

I think the ceftin and cednifir are similiar.

Btw another detox method is brushing the body or you can even use a wide tooth comb. See Dr. Burrascano's diet guidelines. He recommends protein and green vegetables as much as possible. I also did massage which has helped me a lot.
