Need help with IGeneX test results

I received my results for the IGeneX Basic Lyme Panel #4090 and I need help interpreting the results. They are both IGeneX, and CDC Negative.

The IFA is 40 Equivocal.

What is this test showing, have I been exposed to Lyme Disease? I remember being bitten by ticks over two years ago. My PCP doesn't know about Lyme Disease, I had to order a test kit, and get his signature for the blood to be drawn at a hospital pathology lab.

Hi Joe!

One of the complications with this disease is that it seriously inhibits the immune system. I have a theory b/c I was very ill. One year after my exposure to lyme (I had the bullseye rash w/ deer tick bite) I got an MMR titer done b/c I was going to work for the health department.

The nurse was shocked. Apparently I had no Measles antibodies and a very low count for mumps...Hmmm. Well I tested negative 3 times through lab corp for Lyme. Then I was on doxy on/off for 2 months and I tested positive through Igenex. During this time my WBC went from 4.4 to 6.3.

What I'm trying to say is I believe that co-infections and lyme in general can seriously inhibit the immune system; preventing antibodies from being produced. If you don't produce antibodies...how will the tests work? In general, as you will hear - tests are very inaccurate. I am just trying to provide an example of a theory as to why they might be inaccurate.

Why did you get a lyme test? I'm guessing you aren't feeling so hot...!

I believe i'm herxing regularly each month. I have a consistent rash that really doesn't go away, and recently bone pain. I feel like I'm starting to have neurological effects with short term memory loss, and forgetfulness. I originally thought I had food allergies causing hives, but I now believe it's a herxing reaction constantly occurring, never going away.

Hi Joe,
Are you doing any treatments? Herxing is generally due to killing of bacteria so fast that the body can't keep up with detoxing all the toxins that get released.

If what you described above is what you are considering herxing, those are symptoms of possible Lyme disease.

With that being said - Band 39 is specific to Lyme disease, so yes, you do have Lyme disease. I would suggest that you read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread if you haven't yet, as it's packed full of important information, symptom lists (Lyme usually gets passed with other infections too), detoxing instructions and much, much more.
