I never had pain as a major symptom, but since adding Bactrim, about a month ago, I've had intermittent pain around my shin, the soles of my feet, and sometimes around my collar-bone.

I'm assuming these are herxes, but I'm just wondering what actually causes the pain from the Bartonella, when I never felt pain before. Is the pain a result of bacteria in that affected area dying? Or is it just the disease, itself, showing in new forms?

Well, that's the 64 million dollar question. I had Bart pain so that I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes before I ever started any treatments. They would come and go, but never stayed away too long.

When I started my Bart treatment, it came back with a vengeance though!

I believe, and this is based only on personal experience and not enough research to verify either, that it's both. It's from the disease process and from the die off.

Not until we start getting the research monies that this set of infections deserve at least!!

Hi Binduspire!

It took me a year of severe herxing before I was able to distinguish herxes from flares. I saw the light idea when I had a severe bart flare this summer. And having another one right now.

I think that pain is caused by both... I'm with Traveler on this.

:-)  Thanks to the both of you - I feel like a rusty robot, my joints are killing me. I think this must be how someone feels when been beaten up.
