help so biological dentist today/infections in my bone

I was floored. I went to have the mercury removed out of my mouth today. I had a Cat scan of my head and jaws. I have 3 abscessed root canals under my crowns. this teeth will have to be pulled or retreated which they do not recommend.

then I have avelor necrosis like osteomyletis ( infection in the bone of my lower jaw ) on each side where my wisdom teeth were. I had them pulled 30 yrs ago. He said that if it does not heal correctly you get this infection and I have to have surgery for this on each side. I am also allergic to the metal that was used for the root canals, which he said was probably nickel.

and the cost for all this repair is unbelievable. has anyone had this or know anything about this. he said they see many lyme patients that come in real sick and have this kind of problem. that their body has fought for so long and decreased their immunity where they cannot fight the lyme bacteria.

Oh my goodness mystery! That sounds horrible! If you didn't have enough to deal with already....:/

Any chance you can talk to him and say, " Look this is how much I have right now $$, and I'm sick with lyme - if you were in my situation what would you do keeping in mind the expense that I have to deal with to pay for lyme treatment"

Maybe he can cut you a deal or at least suggest a "in the meantime while you are getting your health back...do this and then we can revisit this at a later date"

I'm so sorry to hear this, feel free to vent here! I hope someone else has advice on this. I (knock on wood) have not had problem with my teeth during this adventure.

Mystery1, I have considered a biological dentist as well. I had a root canal done several years ago, back moler upper left side. When I got home that day, bent over and fluid poured out of my eye and nose. Found out later on that my sinus cavity had been perforated with root canal and developed horrible sinus infection. That was ten yrs ago. I have had problems with it off and on since then. Recently it has flared up with pain in the tooth, jaw pain and headaches, as well as drainage from left side of nose. Im not sure if these were any of your symptoms that you had experienced with your teeth as well? Keep us updated on how everything goes. Can you get a second opinion? Do regular dentists treat biological dentists like md's treat LLMD's ? I don't know, Maybe your regular dentist might give his opinion as well?

Not the best choice maybe, but it could be helpful to know about it. Have you seen the list of sites that I post from time to time about places for drug discounts? If not, let me know and I'll post them here for you.

you know lymerunner, I know your teeth are making you sick. I can tell you when he said it was gonna cost 15 to 20,000dollars we like to fainted. I have been researching on root canals, metal allergies, and problems after wisdom teeth removal. I have learned so much about how your mouth can make you so ill. oh if I would have had the internet 30 yrs ago.

I know don't if a regular dentist treats like a biological dentist. I know I have been to dentist all my life and I have never had the kind of exam and teaching I got there. It is located in a ritzy suburb in tn, and I am sure they see some rich clients. but they said they have had alot of lyme patients come there very ill and get much better after treatment to their dental problems. my llmd is within walking distance of this dentist, and they are friends. so I am sure my llmd sends some of his patients over there. I have not met him personally yet, just over the phone and internet. I see him face to face on jan 22.

the dentist there said fighting the infections in your mouth and bone next to it runs the immune system down so much that people get so immunosuppressed their body cannot fight lyme infections and co infections. this is very understandable. then other infections pop up, viruses, hashimontos candida you all get the picture I am sure.

I will keep yall posted on the more I learn. also, didn't someone say on here that a bacteria in your mouth can give a false positive reading on band 41 on the western blot by igenex. I need to find out more about this too.

Oh Mystery,

I feel for you!  And the work does cost lots of money!  This past year I had extensive work done in my mouth (my Mom who will be 88 paid for it so I am forever grateful to her).  I had lost most of my upper teeth from an accident when I was 17 years young thus I saw many dentists, prosthodontists, and oral surgeons.  But I used to have bottom teeth which I ignored when I was sick with lyme and when I entered menopause, it really affected those teeth.

I don't know how old you are but maybe the least expensive way would be to have your teeth extracted (where I live they get $250.00 for each extraction) and wear dentures.  Some people can wear them with no problems and other's like myself have a hard time which is why I had bone grafting done and implants put in (I now have my upper teeth) which connect to the implants.  

The oral surgeon I used did take www.CareCredit.com and maybe some Dentists or Prosthodontists also use that.  You would have to check around.  I never used this site before but maybe check it out:

oh denise thank you so much for all that info. I have been talking to people about partial plates and dentures too. trying to make a good decision about what to do. I wonder if people could be allergic to the titanium if you have the implants ? like the nickel and mercury with root canals and fillings.

I am already considering selling my car. I love it but I could get alot of cash for it. and buy a cheaper car on credit. I will check the sites you gave. thank you.

I keep wondering if my terrible headaches could be related to all the infection in my head lol it has got to be related.

Hi Jackie,

You are quite welcome!  Yes, your heachaches can be most definitely related to your teeth problems.  Everything is really connected from head to feet! 

If you have any "good" teeth then it may be less money to get a partial denture that would connect to them, I don't know what condition your teeth are in.  Sometimes it's worth saving the good teeth and get the mercury fillings removed.  Mercury is a serious problem.

It's sad if you have to sell your car to pay for this but I understand as there is no price tag for good health. 

As far as being allergic to titanium implants, so far I have no symptoms (the implants were put in about 8 months ago and then I needed healing time).  In Europe and in some U.S. states there is a ceramic implant being used called Zirconia implants but they were not offered to me.  Some articles say they are better and some say the Zirconia does have metal in them as well.  

I had terrible headaches after the initial bone grafting was done and as the bone was bonding to my own bone I felt a tiny chip of bone so the oral surgeon (after taking x-rays and feeling around) reopened that site and removed the chip and I was fine.   So all in all, everything was successful!  I'm still in the process of getting my lower teeth (I have implants for those too) and my dentist sees me in January to fit me again. It was alot of work, costs alot of money and at one point I did say I wish I never had it done but now I'm happy!  It's good to have teeth!  LOL!!

Mystery1, I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. I had a filling removed, been there a long time and it was deep. It started bothering me, unbearable pain, so went back to the dentist, he took an x-ray and I had a bone infection. So i went to my parents dentist and he had to give me several doses of antibiotics and pain pills to get thru it and i didnt pay the dentist who messed me up. that pain was worse than any pain ive ever had. Wonder now if its because I have Lyme. Over the last 10 years I had a lot of dental work with 4 or 5 root canals and/or just crowned teeth cause it had a hair line fracture.

Found out 2 months ago that I have Lyme and that was after 15 yrs running to different doctors.

Good luck with your teeth problems, it's not fun, I hate the dentist since I have had tons of work done. Also I pray we all heal from our illnesses fast.
