Hello all, new to the forum.

Among many other symptoms, my main and strongest has been that both my legs including feet are completely numb (yes strength but no feeling) for 4 years straight. Back when I was diagnosed , the MRI showed the brain lesions that -according to the doctors- were caused by  lyme and thus gave me this symptoms. I am finally on IV antibiotics after 4 years, however the numbness got WORSE after a month of abx. Anybody has a similar case or know something about this issue? Wondering if this will be reversible. Thanks all for your help.

Hi! Welcome to the forum!! Your numbness getting worse could be explained by herxheimer reaction. This is best described as a worsening of symptoms caused by endotoxins that bacteria release when they die.

I did have numbness primarily on my left side for awhile. It took some time but feeling eventually returned. I have head that neurological issues do take the longest to heal but it does heal for many! An important part of healing from lyme disease is making sure you are getting the toxins out by detoxing. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day, going regularly, eating healthy.

There are a lot of other threads on how to detox and there is some really good information on our "New to Lyme, start here" thread.

So were yo diagnosd with lyme years ago? How were you treated? I'm asking b/c I was 'treated' for lyme when I got the tick bite but the treatment was inadaquate. Are you currently being treated by an LLMD?

Welcome to our community! I'm so sorry that it's taken you so long to get into treatment!

If you haven't yet, please do read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread that sits at the top of the forum. Even though you are not 'new to Lyme', there is a ton of important information in there, some of which you may not be aware of yet. There are symptom lists (as Lyme rarely is the only infection passed), helpful pdf's and links, detoxing instructions, questions you can ask any doctor that is treating you for tick-borne infections and more.

Having an increase in symptoms around 4 weeks of treatment is often caused by a Herxheimer reaction (a herx), which is due the effects of the treatments. As the bacteria die, they put off even more toxins, frequently overwhelming the detoxing pathways. By doing the detoxing that Opugirl mentioned and what's in the detoxing post in the "New to Lyme?" thread, most of us can at least reduce the amount of time in a herx and the severity of the herx.
