I was diagnosed with Neuro Lyme In September. I was given IV Antibiotics for 28 days. I am 100 times better than before and all symptoms are gone except I still have a slight stutter. I can NOT find any info regarding stuttering & Lyme. I only find it on strokes and stuttering. Does anyone have the same problem as me? The drs here had never seen a patient that had Lyme & Stuttering. Is it uncommon? Do I have some kind of brain damage? Completely frustrated AGAIN. When I asked the Infectious Disease dr why I still had a stutter he said "I was cured" and I should see a speech therapist :/ It has been a tramatic experience for me. I feel like I have PTSD. sad

Hi simply,

I'm glad that you have had success with the IV antibiotics and feel a lot better. You were actually fortunate in a way to get them. Most of us are turned away!

That being said, if you were diagnosed with neurolyme (I was as well) it is possible that you have had these infections for some time. Neurons and brain issues seem to take the longest to heal. I know my brain is still healing and I have been off of treatment for 4 months now and I was treated for about 6 months.

I slurred my words quite a bit in the beginning and had memory issues and they are both absolutely fine now.

It takes our bodies a lonnnng time to recover sometimes from Lyme so I was prepared that I was in it for a bit of the long run.

I don't know how familiar you are with the Lyme controversy but many might suggest (myself included) for you to be evaluated by a lyme literate physician (LLMD) and one that is ILADs trained. Most of us on here have had horrid experiences with infectious disease drs that are in most cases not adequately trained to deal with lyme.

The good news is that the antibiotics helped you, perhaps your body just needs a little nudge from herbals and supplements to get you back to your good ol' self!

I started stuttering due to Lyme, but once I went through effective treatments, it's stopped completely.

I would like to suggest that, as Opugirl has suggested, you look to herbal or natural treatments to help you finish healing, as you still have symptoms, which by definition means that you still have the infection - even if it has been knocked down pretty much by the abx.

28 days even of IV abx aren't enough to kill all of the bacteria, as it only comes out into the blood stream once every 4 - 6 weeks. Infectious Disease docs aren't really the best ones to seek answers from with these infections. I used to think they were, until I saw 4 different ones that suggested that all I needed was antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds.

Thanks a lot Beth & Traveler,

I am torn between is it just time I need to heal or am I still sick. I am still fatigued and I find it hard to do tasks that are complicated or need to be thought out. On the other hand I can sit, walk, and hear again so I feel blessed that I am so much better than before. Neurologically I couldn't read, watch tv, see the light, had bells palsey, vertigo, horrible stutter compared to now, couldn't think ect. So I don't want to take away from all the good the Iv did for me. Now I am back to work but like I said the stutter is noticeable and gets worse when I am nervous, have anxiety, or tired. Who would you recommend as a LLMD on Staten Island in New York?

I know that neither Opugirl or I meant to take anything away from the healing you've had, only that you haven't had enough healing. Improvements are wonderful, but healing is much better - believe me! :-)

Oh yes, stuttering is a result of Lyme. I used to stutter, and now that's much better, but I still have slurred speech, which REALLY bugs me, bc of how people seem to react to it. I got fired from my old job partly because of the slurred speech, along with ticks and jerks. Yes, I know it's illegal, but I really shouldn't be working anyway.

My daughter was stuttering some and unable to do some things she used to do mentally, until she was given a Chinese herbal. Just a couple of doses cleared up her mind a lot to where she quit stuttering and could do more mentally. I was amazed at the quick change.

I stutter too. Not regularly, but I get irregular episodes of it. Never had this problem before lyme. Usually comes with headaches and brain fog. Sometimes, it is the first thing I notice before a seizure comes on.

Garden Peace, do you know what herb helped your daughter overcome this?

I'll have to wait for my daughter to wake up so I can check which formula she used. If I don't get back to you, remind me again since I'm forgetting things lately.

It's 'Classical Pearls' Lightening Pearls, the latter is the formula and the other is the brand name. It would be best to have a doctor prescribe them, but they may not know about them. Chinese herbalists should. You could always contact the maker and see if he can work with you to pick what you need or he might be able to refer you to someone who can. Like most things, what works for one may not work for another. It sure helped my daughters brain function though. I'm going to see if our doc will suggest that I use it too.

You're welcome! If you try it, I hope you'll have results as good as my daughter did. Don't be disappointed if you don't though, since anything is a gamble with Lyme. I just wish supplement makers would have sample sizes so there wouldn't be so much waste of products and money.

For what it's worth, my Practitioner studied under Heiner Fruehauf and he's got some great info on Lyme disease too! I read his articles before they 'locked them down'. I believe a person can still read them by registering on his site & I think it's free - but don't hold me to that.

That's interesting. I think I came across an article he did on Lyme, but I need to go back to find it again. I'm excited at the thought of taking my daughter to him. It just feels right. I hope to talk to him first.

NCNM is where we got tested for Lyme.

One of the articles I read was called "Gu Syndrome" I believe. It's really quite interesting and an important one in Lyme disease.
