IgM 31 meaning for chronic Lyme?

What does IgM band 31 positive mean if I'm well into the chronic stage of Lyme?

IgM bands should only be positive for recent exposure so this didn't make sense to me.

Band 31 is an antibody to OspA, which is specific to Lyme disease.

From what I've read, it can take up to a year for that antibody to be produced, so it backs up the theory that the results from the IgM (some say from the whole WB) are unreliable to determine how a patient is healing as they will spike and change throughout the healing process.

That's my understanding of what I've read.

Maybe (??) even more reliable than the CD57, which can be quite high for a very ill person and quite low for a very healthy, fully recovered person. This band isn't supposed to become reactive until the person has been infected for over 1 year, which is the definition of chronic Lyme.

Sure I will give the full details! It's the least I can do to contribute here.

Just so people know, as of now I've had three Lyme test done:

Test #1 done at a fair/mediocre Lyme laboratory: Lyme C6 EIA positive, positive band IgG 41, everything else negative.

Test #2 done at a standard lab (aka "horrible", aka Quest Diagnostics): Everything negative

Test #3 done at top U.S. lab Stony Brook: Lyme C6 EIA positive, IgM band 31 positive, IgG band 41 positive, IgG band 72 positive, everything else negative.

So if you're a LLMD how would you interpret those results??? I'll be finding out in less than a month.

I can tell you that any LLMD worth going to would diagnose you with Lyme disease. No one has been able to explain to me how a person could show antibodies to a bacteria that is supposedly not in their body.

I remember finding this a while ago - it talks about the kDa31 protein being the main protein used by BARTONELLA to bind iron ..

Maybe there is something that I am missing or not understanding - but according to this study, kDa31 is found in bartonella ...

Abstract.

Growth of Bartonella henselae is strongly heme dependent, and B. henselae is unable to synthesize heme itself. At least five outer membrane-associated proteins from B. henselae bind hemin, including the 31-kDa protein designated Pap31. The gene of this protein was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli M15(pREP4) and detected with monoclonal antibodies in the outer membrane fraction. Complementation of the hemA-deficient mutant E. coli K-12 EB53 (aroB tsx malT hemA) with pap31 demonstrated that this protein is involved in heme acquisition and may be an important virulence factor in the pathogenesis of B. henselae.
