Do Bands 58 and 66 Indicate Babesia ? - Perhaps YES

I have found LymeMD's blog to be informative and extremely interesting to read ... Unlike many other supposed "experts", he does not pretend to have all the answers, so when he does toss some info and thoughts out into his blog, I feel it is sincere ...

I just saw this in one of his blog entries regarding bands 58 and 66 on the Western Blot Test ( this is a quote from his blog )

There is a notion amongst ILADS docs that 58 and 66 bands suggest Babesia

This is extremely interesting for me ... I have tested positive for babesia ( antibody tests and Igenex FISH ), and many times on my lyme WB I have had both 58 and 66 show ...

For anyone who has had these bands appear on your lyme WB test, perhaps you should also consider a babesia infection ...

Interesting, I do not have bands 58 and 66. Would be interesting for those with these bands if they also tested positive for babesia

I have positive band 58 and 66. The only symptom I get that's close to babesia is occasional chills but it is winter so I don't know if that's enough. I've never been tested for babesia though and LLMD never really mentioned it

Tbrown, from what I understand, there are bands on the WB that might cross-react to many other things - common viruses for example ..

But it is interesting about 58 and 66 ...

If you are really curious, maybe ask your doc if you could have a babesia test ... My first babesia tests were thru MDL, then IGenex ...

I got a regular babesia and Bart test through quest but they came up negative but I don't think that really means anything

I have 58 & 66 but have not tested positive for Babesia (IGeneX, Labcorp (2x), DNA Conexxions)

Band 58 has always shown up on my tests and I was told it was a heat shock protein whatever that is and not to worry about it. I never had babesia symtoms and always tested negative. After 4 years of treating lyme and bartonella my doctor started treating babesia just in case and all of the symptoms came out and I finally tested positive for babesia duncani and microti.

Question - has anyone done a search to see if this article can be found that the OP is talking about? I can't seem to find it - although I have to admit that I slept hard and long last night (12 hours!! Woo hoo!!!!) and am struggling to wake up now.

Everything that I have found points to different strains of Borrelia (Lyme), not Babesia on those two strains. I'd love to follow this up if someone can help in finding that article. Thanks in advance!!!

there's no reason to guess with these stupid infections if you have lyme assume you have babesia and bartonella and treat accordingly. Dr. J. said he sees almost a 100% correlation with folks who have lyme also have bartonella. if you don't treat all these infections simultaneously you may not be able to eradicate any single one due to their synergistic impact on your system. de-layering an onion one infection at a time seems to be the prevailing wisdom but a more practical approach (if you can handle the herxing) is to hit all of them at once.

my bartonella (or gram negative) symptoms didn't come out until 1 year into treating lyme/babesia and thats been the infection holding me back from day 1. if i would've treated all 3 B's from the get go i would be farther along faster.

I really want to see this doctor (he is local to me) but he is really expensive and does a multitude of tests in the beginning which are very expensive as well.

My igenex test was positive ++ for band 58 and my babs test was positive.
