Im not giving up straight, black, organic, caffeinated coffee EVER. I even told my LLMD this.
There have been numerous scientific studies covering everything from the high amounts of antioxidants in it to the protection it provides organs (like the liver), to improved brain function.
However, I do not need these studies to tell me that I feel absolutely awesome with it, than without it. I really trust my body here. For me it reduces the pain in my joints and muscles and allows me to recover from my workouts faster. It helps me totally overcome that last % of annoying brain fog too. To avoid the sugars, Ive started to blend my coffee with teas (like raspberry, cinnamon, apple, or Yerba Mate for extra flavor). I cant prove it, but I firmly believe this is even helping me lose weight.
Fortunately, my LLMD grudging allows me to keep my java, but there is a "3 to 1 rule": You have to drink 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of mild coffee. This helps keep you hydrated and re-alkalizes the body (usually the two biggest concerns). My water filter has a high alkalizer, so I can now make coffee that is only barely acidic.
