I woke up this morning with an intense burning pain in my stomach, and pain/pressure in my rectum. I had an intense urge to have a BM, but it felt as though my sphincter muscle was too spasmed to allow anything to pass, including gas. The pain was really bad, and I had to crawl to the toilet, and was seriously considering calling an ambulance because I didn't think I could ride in the car.
My husband ran me an Epsom salt bath which I'm soaking in now, and although I'm still in pain, it has helped.
Has anyone else had this? Should I go to the emergency room, or is this just a warning to be stricter on my diet(had my husbands Christmas party last night, I caved and ate a brownie, and a couple pieces of bread, but I've cheated occasionally, and never had a reaction of any sort before). I compare the pain to labor, and as I said it's subsiding, but should I be concerned, or chalk it up to this stupid disease?
Thanks for your help.

That doesn't sound good at all! Was your BM okay? No blood etc?
I will tell you since I cleaned up my diet if I eat something I'm not supposed to like junk food it will make me feel horrid - but not nearly as intense as you are describing. I would definitely say if the pain doesn't subside soon to at least go to a walk in clinic (way cheaper then ER and
open on weekends usually).
Hope you feel better!

Thanks for the response opugirl. The pain has almost disappeared, just a few pangs every once in a while. After my bath, my muscles seemed to relax and I was able to go to the bathroom, and there wasn't any blood or anything, so I think I'm ok now. Just a little concerned about
why this happened, and do not want it to happen again!
I haven't been following my diet very well at all since Christmas, so I guess I need to be more strict. It's just strange that I've never had any reactions to food before. I now know Bart has been what's causing some minor bathroom issues I've been having for years, so I'm wondering if this new symptom could be part of a herx? I never hear people mentioning this as a herx symptom, though.

Hi Sooverthis,
I have had this so many times, it's sometimes so intense that it's scary...
I just wanted you to know you're not alone, but I still don't know what it is exactly. Pain in the pelvic area and rectum. It makes me grasp for air.
I haven't find anything to sooth it, but I can imagine that a bath will make it relax. I don't have a bath, just a shower.

Thanks Marie, I'm sorry you get this too, but glad I'm not alone. It really is intense, and it freaked me out...I thought my intestines were twisted or something!

I get intense intestinal cramping with occasional rectal/pelvic floor cramping. Not fun would be quite the understatement! Those pains can be enough to still drop me to the ground, doubled over. I would also get pseudo-blockages in my intestines.
I can say that even this has improved quite a bit for me since healing, although I do still deal with it. I've noticed that both yeast and sugar -with sugar being the worst by far - are the worst at creating those horrid, super intense cramps or all day issues for me.
The only thing I have ever found to work for me - and I've tried all kinds of pharmaceuticals - has been a combination of three herbs - 1 part licorice root, 1 part peppermint (aerial parts) and 1/2 part white peony root. I take 1500 mgs, 3 times a day - and believe me - I know when I haven't taken it!
Something else that always helps me when I realize that I've got 'extra' cramping going on has been to use a heating pad on my abdomen and to be sure that I let my intestines (& me) rest - no high fiber foods (or even very soft, easy to digest foods when it gets bad) and lots of fluid.
If you haven't been carefully checked for things like blockages and other intestinal issues, please be sure to get checked out!!

Thanks Trav, I'll keep those herbs in mind, and definitely get checked out if it happens again...I think it's related to sugar as well...

LOL sooverthis - I had that same thought the first time it happened to me 'what if my intestines are twisted, I could die from it?'
