I take breaks to allow my immune system to become active again and to let my body, flora, brain, and all else that is impacted by the antibiotics to take a break. I am sure that my liver and kidneys also enjoy the break from taking so much medicine.
From what I have read, after being on antibiotics for a long while, the bacteria hides, goes dormant, and there is no more kill. My immune system apparently also goes dormant since there is nothing else to kill. When I take a break, the bacteria thinks that "the coast is clear" and comes out. My immune system sees it, becomes active again and goes after the bacteria. At the same time I start the antibiotics and BAM! I get some of them. After a while the rest of the bacteria goes dormant and the cycle begins again.
I have been on antibacterials for 8 months and from the 2nd month to the 6th, I noticed that I was not making any improvements. I switched antibiotics and took a break in between. That is when I noticed that the bacteria came back. On a hunch, I started the cycles and each time I take a break, my symptoms are weaker and some do not come back.
