Do you think it's ok to boil the Cowden tinctures to get the alcohol out of them?
Ironically, am having trouble with diarrhea today.
I'm going to stop the antimicrobials for about
two days, and see what happens, but I'm still taking the detox herbs, and wondering if it was ok to do that, as I'm sure alcohol doesn't help either.

Margaret you made me laugh today!
I usually put the tincture in warm water for about
10 minutes and that is enough to dissolve the alcohol in the tincture.

Buhner recommends that maybe Cowden is different.

Csmm23, if you don't mind my asking, how does Buhner recommend removing the alcohol?
Thanks,
Margaret

Stephen’s response:
You can put the tincture in water and gently simmer it for 5 or 10 minutes. This will remove the alcohol. And, yes, you can add a sweetener; it is an intense tincture on the tongue. I am partial these days to agave syrup which many health food stores are beginning to sell. Barring that, maple syrup.
Margaret,
I copy this from his website just enter the key word in the search.

Well, yes, Trav., sometimes I think so!! :)
Csmm, do you put the tinctures directly on your tongue, and not in a glass of water? Thanks for the info.; I will try that.
Right now, I'm not doing anything.

Oh well, in that case, I don't mind drinking it without the sweetener. I wonder though: Does the tincture need to be in water only, or can it be placed in an herbal tea?
Thanks, Margaret

Some herbs don't mix well- it can change how they respond in the body or even interfere with certain actions, so it would be best to check with an herbalist that knew each herb that is being used.

Thanks all,
I did boil Cowden (ha ha), but then I looked back at the thread, and realized it said, "simmer," not boil. Oh well.
thanks again; you guys are so much better than the piece of crap new primary care physician I just saw.
