Question about splitting antibiotics.

Hey All,

So I just got back from seeing Dr M. in Plattsburgh on tuesday, had a great appointment. I definitely think I made the right choice going with her. I am excited to get started on antibiotics believe it or not. She has me started on Plaquenil, Biaxin, Doxy and then pulsing on Metronidazole. Just gotta finished 10 days of Nystatin first.

My question is about Biaxin, that stuff is ridiculously expensive! $6.50/500mg pill. Anyways I found somewhere I can get the 250mg generic for $0.50/pill.

This is a pretty silly question but does it make any difference if I am just taking 2x250mg instead of 1x500mg? I just thought it may be something with the coatings on the pills or something.

I'm sorry if this is too stupid of a question haha.

No, no problem at all, if you're sure that it is really generic and nothing fake.

I once had to cut my antibiotic pills in half cause the dosage my dr presribed didn't exist. The pharmacist told me to try with a knife at home. If that didn't work, I could buy a small cutting thing especially made for pills :-)

agreed, it isn't a problem!

just bear in mind, metronidazole is VERY strong, and some people struggle with it. Good luck!!

Thanks guys. Looks like I can save a bunch of money then.

Oh and I know, I've heard that Dr. M doesn't hold back. I'm prepared for a rough time.

My LLMD always had me phase in new ABX one at a time spaced a few days to a week apart, rather than take two or more new drugs starting the same day. This will help you determine which script may have caused a bad reaction.
