Very concerned about a friend with lyme...

Has he had more than one type of abx and if so, which ones? It would be helpful if he would join this forum and tell us his history, then people may be able to direct him to other ways of treating it. There are several herbal protocols that can replace or be used with abx.

Is he seeing a Lyme literate Dr.? They get special training to deal with Lyme disease and co-infections.

Does he do any detoxing? That's very important. Does he take probiotics, which are also very important, especially when on abx ?

I think there is always hope, but I also think combined therapies are the best way to go. That's my opinion.

At the top of the page, there is a "New to Lyme?...Start Here" thread that has a lot of helpful advice that you or he could read through to learn a lot about Lyme and it includes things he can do to detox if he's not already doing them and other things.

There are several good books on Lyme too. I'm reading one written by Dr. Jernigan, called "Beating Lyme Disease, 2ne edition." He looks at treating Lyme by getting a persons system balanced and working better so the immune system will work better, rather than over riding the immune system. That goes along with what I feel makes sense with illnesses, but again, that's just my opinion. There are herbal protocols that many people use too. Just let him know that there are other options available.

I knew someone here who was only doing abx, high dosed for a long time too, and he would also crash again any time he stopped taking them. I lost track of him since the support group shut down, so I don't know how he is now.

He's lucky to have you as a friend. That is so important to a person with Lyme. Encourage him to sign up so he can have more support. This is a great group of caring people and it would be good for him to be among people who understand and care. I wish him the best!

Has he been tested for those MTHR mutations? I know I spoke to someone who said they were sooo sick for years with Lyme, then they got tested for MTHR, they had it, and once receiving supplements to help it, she got much better and is off abx and living life.

It's hard to be the one watching a Lyme patient going through the battle, so vent away! :) You'll be so educated about Lyme while you're helping him, so if you should ever get it, you'll be way ahead! I hope you never do get it, though.

Oh no, I do have it I have been on abx for about a year planning on going no longer than one additional year. I'm doing alright though!
