Warning - new article out by Wormser

For those that may not know yet, Gary Wormser is " is professor of medicine, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and vice chairman of the Department of Medicine. "

And he has lead the fight against the recognition of chronic Lyme disease, and since he is 'chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases', of course also happens to believe that Lyme is very hard to catch and easy to treat with the standard 28 days of abx. Grrrr!! He likes to use bits of truth so that he can catch as many as possible in his web.

I thought it would be good for me to post this most recent article that he participated in so that we all knew what he was up to and to avoid the misconceptions that he is propagating. So, here is his latest attack, e-hem, article:

"If you infect a mouse with one strain and then clear it with antibiotics, it can't be infected again with the same strain but can be with a different strain," Brisson said "But mice only live for a year or so. No one had explored if immunity persists over the course of many years."

The problem is that it's already been determined that the white footed mouse doesn't get Lyme disease in the same sense as humans..... and the fact that they have such a short life span won't be noticed either.

At the end of the article, it states, "His group is also investigating whether becoming infected and generating an immune reaction against one strain could offer protective cross-immunity against other strains." giving us an idea of where he will spread his misconceptions next.

"We can't get reinfected" is headed to a doctor near you soon! Being sarcastic!!! Grrr!!!

Does not follow anything close to a normal logical rational thought process. Doubling down on his nonsense BS that has caused possibly millions a lot of anguish and suffering. People should put their personal interests aside and look at the well being of their patients. Gross.

I think it's a good study that he is doing. Truth is lots of people get Lyme disease and don't get symptoms, if their body is detoxing right and immune system is strong they can clear the infection on their own. My lyme literate doctor believes half of all people that get a lyme infection are non-symptomatic. But when they get a test they will test positive. That is at least encouraging to know we can boost the immune system to get to that point. Also people that go into remission get their immune system back to the point where they can hold it off.

I don't know about that, I read reports Lyme can change it's outter coat becoming a different 'strain'.

I have read lots of studies and get confused about what is right and what is wrong though. For example I have read studies that Lyme infects and one strain ends up becoming another different strain in the brain, and a different strain in the joints... So Lyme ends up becoming multiples different strains.

Either way we need as much research as possible with this illness. I think people should still treat if they are symptomatic until they are able to get well.

I disagree about this being a 'good' article and 'good' research whole heartedly. What we need is as much truly unbiased research as possible on these diseases. We don't need doctors saying that chronic Lyme isn't real - which is what Wormser says - because most of us here have chronic Lyme disease.

There is no way to know even how many people have Lyme disease since there is so much misdiagnosis and doctors that refuse to diagnose these diseases, there's no way for anyone to know how many people have Lyme and don't have symptoms.

If you can post links to research showing that Bb bacteria can change it's "outer coat" and become a different strain, I'd sure be interested in that info! That would mean that this is all much more complicated and not as simple as Wormser assumes! Imagine - we already know that there are over 300 strains of the Lyme bacteria, if it can essentially 'morph' into more strains, we need to know about it.
