What is good liver support when you're on Rifampin?

I've read a lot of conflicting opinions and studies about the interactions between Rifampin and Milk Thistle. When I first went on Rifampin, I felt horrible for a while. I started to become suspicious of my vitamins interacting with Rifampin (at the time I was taking B, C, D, Magnesium, Garlic, Sillium Husk). One day I stopped taking all my vitamins with the Rifampin...and the next day I started feeling much better. I haven't taken any of those in over a month. I'm slightly nervous cause I know Magnesium is very important and I'm going to be on the Rifampin for about 3-4 more months, but after everything I've read I just want Rifampin to work correctly and I feel it's doing HUGE things for me.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I know I can't take milk thistle with Rifampin. What is the next best alternative? I have Curcumin but I'm wondering if anything is better than that. I did have slightly elevated liver enzymes a few months ago, on my way to get tested again now...

I had heard the same thing. I have been on two rounds of Rifampin over the past 3 years. I always just took my normal doses of Milk Thistle and other supps thru all ABX protocol changes. I've only had a couple occurrences of elevated liver enzymes, once on my first time on Rif/Zith/Doxy, where I stopped all ABX till they dropped to within range.

My first time on Rif hit me pretty hard. But the last round this past Fall with Rif/Plaq/Mino really sent me to herxville, but liver enzymes stayed low and after two months saw some good improvements.

Maybe other will chime in on what they took while on Rif.

I made the mistake of taking my vitamins (listed below) with Rifampin once. I felt horrible later that day and onto the next day.

Normally, in the morning I take a multivitamin, 3,000 iu of V D3, 500mg of Turmeric, a super vitamin B complex, and 2,000 mg of Amoxicillin and in the evening I take 300mg of Rifampin and have had no problems whatsoever.

Perhaps if you space Rifampin and your vitamins a few hours apart you might do better.

Do you take ALA (alpha lipoic acid)? It has been used in several studies to rid the liver of toxins. I take 1200mg daily, but I have read it should be taken with B12, so I take that as well. I have been on Rifampin since 10/13 and my blood tests (every two weeks) always come back normal.
