Adding in Plaquenil. Any experiences on it?

Hello All.

I just got my Plaquenil yesterday and the dosage prescription says to use 200 mg twice daily. 

So I will be adding this into my daily regimine as well.  Seems like a favorite drug of some of our top LLDs.  Makes our cells more alkaline thus making them a less favorable environment for intracellular infections, also making antibiotics work more effectively.  I am confused because some research says it promotes cystic form, while other research shows it is essential in treatment and clinical data in thousands of patients shows it prevents relapse from occuring just like our tinidazole and flagyl drugs.  So I guess clinical data from patients trumps data from test tubes?  Not sure this drug works with mysterious mechanisms.

Does anyone have any experience on Plaquenil or know what exactly it does?  This is all I really know about it so far.  Does it make Lyme want to leave our cells or something so it sticks with the out of cell environment instead?  Just my own thought.  Any advice on precautions I should take with this medication ?  Thanks!

I've been on it several times. Never any adverse reactions.

It has many purposes:

1. Like you mentioned, it makes cells more alkaline so ABX works better.

2. It was used in the past to treat malaria, so it may help with babs

3. Some LLMDs say it is also a cyst buster.

Last fall I was on a Rif, Doxy and plaq combo for Bart that sent me to herxville pretty hard for six weeks and then saw some major improvements.

What else will you be taking?

Well I am already on minocycline, tinidazole, septra DS (Bactrim), and banderol & samento occasionally. This is just going to be my next addition into my regimine!

Hey Lymepickle I'm on the exact same protocol as you minus the samento and banderol tho I've always wanted to try that. How are you doing? I have a LLMD appointment next Tuesday not sure if I should ask to add or drop anything

Well I am feeling and doing so much better. And as of right now in this moment, no symptoms except for slight burning in my knees! I think I am still herxing very slightly there. I had profound fatigue a few days ago but I did some research and found that when taking tinidazole it can delplete your B-vitamins. So I took an energy infusion mixture and that cleared that up! I feel so much better now! So I think this protocol is working. Finally for the first time in literally months I'm actually working more efficiently and effectively at work and getting things done.

It's unbelievable I see the loop that this illness threw me on at work and it's like my work life crumbled, I just fell so behind in so many things. I think it is refelcting poorly on me. But I'm trying to change that around now.

Plaquenil is my next addition but not sure when I will start it, maybe Sunday so it will be in my new weekly pills container.

I figure I just want to treat this disease once and hoping to treat it right the first time! Trying to make the chances of relapse as low as possible!

How long ago were you infected if you don't mind me asking. How long did you treat for? Do you think the samento and banderol were beneficial?
I'm 22 years old and lived an active life style up until this summer I never had a symptom but now I have them all the time. I know I was bit 2 years ago by a deer tick but didn't know anything about Lyme so just pulled it off and carried on. Dying to get back to a normal life I only have until August to get back into physical shape or my career is basically over. Life story sorry. One of those days...

I have been infected for close to 5 months. I can pinpoint my date of infection to November 23rd, 2013.

I actually began 200 mg minocycline daily just 4 days post infection! And I have been treating agressively as much as possible ever since. I added in the Banderol & Samento to the mix about 1 month post infection and was doing something like 2 full droppers of each daily. I have continued it since, except when I started the tinidazole which was one month ago I have stopped the banderol and samento on my tinidazole pulse days. Just limited it to the off days. Reason being is because banderol & samento are in a tincture of alcohol about 20% and it isn't supposed to be mixed with tinidazole. One thing my LLMD suggested is that I mix it with a cup of hot water and let it sit overnight which would evaporate the alcohol. I haven't tried this yet.

Sorry about the career! I thought my career was going to go down the drain too and at the time I didn't even care because I thought well my health is much more important! Yes this illness is absolutely harsh. I'm finally just getting myself rolling again at work after being here for the past 4 months virtually dead in my office. My bosses have accepted that I have been "sick" but I told him I am about 80% recovered. He said he expects me to be able to work like I used to again which I have to commit myself to!

I think it's terrible with this illness. People don't realize how much it takes out of you and how difficult it is to treat! And explaining to them just won't really do, they pretty much have to experience it for themselves to fully understand it.

Hmm seems you are in a better place than I am. How long before you started feeling better? I have only been on this combo a few weeks and I'm hoping I feel so crappy latley because I recently increased all of my doses

Well to be honest. The recovery was very difficult and it has only been that I have been recovering in small spurts. I think I made my single greatest recovery after getting on the banderol and samento. I remember starting that, and then I got knocked out for literally 4 or 5 days. Then I felt slightly better. But the thing is I kept taking the Banderol and Samento but I was concerned because my bartonella got worse. So that's when I found the LLMD (Just over a month after starting the banderol and samento) and got on the minocycline and rifampin. That helped resolve the bartonella! But then the Lyme symptoms came back. Anyways it's a very long process. And when you get to a plateau, you gotta switch up what you are doing I have found. Then when I started the tinidazole I got much worse but eventually I felt much better. And now on my 4th pulse of tinidazole I feel much better! I guess it just takes time to recover.

It's like there is just another peice of the puzzle that needs to be solved each time. I had low energy previously this week and it was because I wasn't taking my b-vitamins and apparently tinidazole depletes them!

I think adding in Plaquenil is another peice of the puzzle I would say. My Lyme Doctor says it's one thing that would help out greatly.

I would say banderol and samento will really help, and maybe a biofilm treatment too like serrapeptase. Nattokinase is also good and lumbrokinase is the best biofilm treatment. Lyme can hide in blood clots in the blood or make biofilms in some tissues so these are good additions.
