Hi Mulligan. I have been on minocycline since the 4th day after I was infected. So I have been on it for 4 and a half months now. I did however discontinue it about a month and a half into treatment for like 3 days.
I would say yes I did significant headaches when first starting the minocycline and dizziness as well. It continued for sometime and at first I actually thought it was the minocycline so I stopped taking it for a few days, then started it again 3 days later and found that the headaches were even worse. But then under the guidance of an LLMD it is recommended to be on the therapy continuously. Sure enough the headaches go away and now it is very well tolerated medication not causing headaches. Every now and then I got random 'brain herxes' though that would cause dizziness. Now I don't even get those anymore I just feel normal! So yes it will get better, just make sure not to miss a dose or it could take you back to square one again with the headaches and such like it did for me.
Now I have no headaches at all. So best to just keep on the medication, keep detoxing, and eventually it will improve.
Minocycline doesn't stay in the blood for very long and is quite fat soluble making it penetrate into tissues very well like the blood brain barrier, skin, joints, and lots of places lyme likes to go. Doxycycline is the better choice for infections more in the blood as it is more water soluble. These are both tetracyclines and limit protein production by the germ which in turn limits their growth. It is generally bacteria static which slows them down but could possibly kill them when they divide.
I think ceftin is a cell wall drug that interferes with the germs outter membrane. It causes many holes in the cell wall causing it to burst open eventually. Cefixime might actually be next for me, but we will see.
