I see a lot of debate around here on how lyme ca be eradicated, while some say it goes into remission, and some say it depends on the case, some people can be cured of it, while others only go into remission.

Why do you guys think?

My dr. thinks that I was at some point exposed to Lyme and my body was able to fight it off. I have two Lyme bands positive on my Western Blot, nothing on any other test including Fry. I am in shock that considering what I have been through it has not come back. But, I am a proof that it is possible to have it an not get it again even while being very ill with other horrid infections.

That debate actually continues for LLMD Doctors! Where they generally think it is "remission", some now have the opinion of "it comes back, but if it doesn't come back in 3 years it never will". Also Lyme that comes back after a remission was under treated Lyme and either needed more cyst busters, herbs, or something.

I am actually planning on treating for 2-3 months symptom free and then 3 years on herbs until symptom free because I would hate to lose progress from a relapse. It gets to the point where any Lyme in you left, is just kind of like a dead body if there are any. They just won't wake up.

So I believe if it comes back it is under treated.

I think what we really have to do. Is during that time of 2-3 months treating symptom free... You gotta exercise, stretching, light aerobics, etc. That is to help circulate the antibiotics and kind of mix it up better in your system. More Lyme will actually be treated by moving your body. I'm almost at the 'symptom free mark' so I'm going to start implementing exercise soon.

It can't be eradicated. It goes into remission, and then when you get symptoms again, you start the treatment again.

I was never able to go off treatment until recently, but not because I wanted to, but because I had to (C. Diff.).

Hi Teragram, are you sure about that? I think it depends on how long standing the infection has been inside you? There are variables. I think if nobody gets any neuro symptoms after getting the brain infection and effectively treated it then there to me the immune system doesn't get inside the brain, just the circulation of the brain. There are people that treated it and got rid of the infection though. The two issues with it going into remission is 1. Cystic forms, and 2. Biofilms. If you address both of these issues aggressively enough you should clear the infection. Also even in biofilms, the infection dies after 2 years if it doesn't come out. So if you have gone a long time with no symptoms you would think it's treated. It is just that this illness is like trying to peel an onion with your fingers, you have to do it layer by layer by layer and it takes time.

Lyme Pickle - I TOTALLY agree. My Dr is expecting me to make a full recovery too. However, she did say that the bacteria may never completely leave my body - she doesn't expect it to come out again once I am finished with treatment (and as with you, I am continuing two months after I am symptom free). So glad you are almost symptom free!! I took a step back, but it's ok, bc my Dr now added Zithromax and AL complex to the mix, so although I started off on just doxy and a few other herbs (thank goodness I did that, bc I was herxing SO Badly) - I am now on dr H's protocol, I guess. I knew I would lead into this, but sometimes it is better for some of us to go slow.

johnred - it is up for much debate, but I think lymepickle explained it well. its kind of like the chicken pox, it remains in you, and for some it comes out as shingles in the later years, and for others it doesn't.

but you can be "cured" of lyme so to speak, and never have it come back again - if you are treated early enough and properly!

Hi Chapelle. Thanks I'm glad you are on my side! This past week has been my best week yet by the way and I have now added in Plaquenil. Ever since I added the plaquenil I have had really great results. I am almost functioning at a level of my former self which is pretty good news!

So I am on minocycline, tinidazole, Septra DS, and Plaquenil. Some other treatments are A-Bart, Houttuynia, banderol, and samento.

I may ask about adding Zithromax in later.

I even cheated my diet today and had a peice of ice cream cake!! Really I thought why not because we were celebrating my step-sisters birthday. BUT it was also a neuro lyme brain test to check the activity of the bacteria in my brain! No reaction!!! Last time in mid December in one of the worst times of my infection I had a piece of cake and had crazy brain tingling from the sugar. This I attributed to the bacteria in my brain reacting to the sugar, they really like it and feed off it so it creates activity. I know definitely not good if you have symptoms and active neuro lyme, but maybe if the treat comes like a peice of cake when you feel better you can test to see if there are any bacteria left! Also I did this with coffee too, I can tolerate and enjoy a cup of coffee like I used to before lyme! I called that the coffee test for neuro lyme and I passed!

Exercise is going to be key in my next part of recovery. I think it stirs up the antibiotics in our body.

But if there is ever a reoccurrence of neuro lyme symptoms I think treatment is essential to start again immediately! Spirochetes, either oral spirochetes, syphillis, or lyme cause Alzheimer's if they can get into the brain and remain untreated. I hate to bring up that point but I believe it's true and I sill don't believe the immune system crosses the blood brain barrier. Gotta keep peeling away at it, and if it comes back then there are more layers left to peel!

I asked my LLMD about exercise today bc I feel like I am ready! She gave me very specific instructions - total body sculpting only - still no aerobics or cardio, but that's ok! and rest for at least 2 days before another workout. If you want more info - I will post the workout on the forum!

LOL on the immune system and the BBB - I understand, although I don't understand how my anxiety and insomnia went away completely if the immune system didn't play a role! We could probably go back and forth about this for hrs, but the important thing is, we keep getting better!!!n
