Anyone have any experience with Penicillin G injections??

I am at a crossroad so to speak. I have been on doxycycline for 10 weeks and pretty much have reached a standstill, so my dr added Zithromax. Not much has happened as of yet (I may have bartonella, or may not). I posted another thread that I am having a major sun sensitivity issue with the sun bc of the doxy, and my life will be a living hell if I have to stay on it thru the summer.

the only symptoms I have left are tingling on my left side (which was gone for a few weeks but has returned), muscle twitches, and just general body/major joint aches - knees, shoulder, feet, hips

But I don't have many options left, bc I am allergic to cephalesporins, and I wouldn't take a fluoroquinolone if my life depended on it - so I was wondering if anyone has had any success with penicillin G injections? when I first started reading about Lyme, I remember that drug being up there with iv rocephin and doxy as one of the choices for lyme treatment.

any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you!

Hi chapelle, my dr just pulled me off doxy for the summer due to the sun etc. I did not to penicillin injections but used ammoxicillin with good results. Hope this helps. Obtw I had numbness and tingling in my left arm down to the fingers. The ammox def helped.

This is encouraging to know thanks!! I have read that amox can def. Work for lyme I am just nervous about stoppiing the doxy. When u switched did any of of ur old symptoms come back? Did u switch back to doxy when the summer was ove? And were u on any other antibiotics? Bc I don't even know if I even need the zithromax. Been on it for a week and so far no change.

The ammox controls the symptoms very well. I also alternate between doxy and Omnicef. Ive used both Omnicef and doxy with the ammox with very good results. The ammox worked as well if not better than the doxy. I also found the Omnicef and doxy work well together.

I just got a script for Probenecid that you can use with ammox to enhance to drug for better absorption into the central nervous system.

wow, the amox works better? that is very interesting. i think that is what i am going to do - switch from doxy to amoxil. the tingling is really the only symptom i have left, the joint aches are very few and far between, and the twitching is extremely minimal now. are you still on amox? what symptoms do you have left?
