Hi all,

I just want to throw this out there....my insurance plan has changed and I'm sure many of yours have as well. One of the changes is my insurance is no longer paying for bloodwork. Period. Until I hit my high deductible. There are a few sites popping up where you can order and pay for bloodwork at a steeply discounted price....and without an ordering physician. They even do MRI and CT scans for WAY cheaper then I've seen.

I have used DirectLabs but I'm sure there are others out there. Then you just go to one of their sites, labcorp is a big client of theirs to get the bloodwork drawn. If it is for saving money...I'm alllllll for it!

I order a lot of my own blood tests, that's how I tested positive for Lyme. I had another insurance at the time, which was pretty bad...I found it way cheaper to order my own, not to mention not suffer from the humiliation of always going to my PCP to get things run.

I found that privatemdlabs was the cheapest, you can always find coupons online as well. I just ordered a complete metabolic/lipid panel for $42 with coupon code.

Yes, I wish I had found out about this earlier. Wouldn't have saved me a whole lot but a couple hundred dollars is still a couple hundred!

I didn't realize there were so many of these places online, I did some comparison pricing, and found some are GROSSLY overpriced compared to the one I mentioned earlier. The same labs were sometimes 50%-75% more.

This is really good info to come across. I'm just having a problem processing stuff right now. I'm wondering how you get these tests done without a prescription/doctor? Who/where do you get the tests done? Who gets the results?

I could use all the help possible with costs, like everyone else except a blessed few. I realized my new dr ordered all these tests yesterday, and I am scheduled to see four (4!) new specialists (!) in the next month, and I am going to have to pay for some/a lot of this out of pocket. I will need to figure out what is necessary and what I can just not get done.

@in a cocoon, for standard bloodwork, thyroid, CMP, CBC you don't need a physician. They just do it! And you get the results! They even have some really unique testing that I haven't heard of before. I think I might get a hair analysis next month b/c I think it would be really helpful. I've had deficiencies for awhile and am just curious how bad they are.

The labs have agreements with different lab companies. direct labs uses labcorp so you just go to a labcorp after you order the test, have the requisition printed out, give it to the lab tech. And you know upfront how much it will costs.

You do have to pay for it upfront but that is better in my opinion, sometimes.

The MRI and CT scans I *believe you need a script for but thats it.
