I'm pretty sure it was posted somewhere, but I can't remember where it is.

Why don't LLMD's take insurance? I don't understand. My insurance has her listed as my primary, and it is an office visit. So why can't my insurance card be used? I'm not working because of Lyme, and my doctor visits are $150 a pop, for a half hour. I am soon to be a completely broke single parent living with my parents, and son.

Some LLMDs do actually take insurance. But most prefer to work outside of the insurance network.

In simple terms the insurance company sets co-pay rates and approved treatment protocols. Under contract the MD must follow medical guidelines.

A regular PCP is only reimbursed about $125 for your 10 minute visit. LLMDs typically will spend several hours on a first visit, and 1/2 hour on follow-up visits, and they don't require a positive lab test for them to prescribe ABX treatment.
