another question: the small bumps; hoping not candida.

so, another question about the itchy small bumps on my son's foot(top and sides)
Today, they are on both legs, lower legs.

Except they aren't itching him now. They are very, very small and white and/or reddish.

I looked up candida and I hate to say it, but I think it might look like a candida rash. I'm just guessing, but maybe.

I'm going to call the dr. (the nurse actually, b/c the dr. doesn't work on Tues.) and see what she thinks.

Any experience with this or ideas?

Could this be a sign of candida die-off? or would it mean candida overgrowth I suppose. Confused and guessing.

Thanks for any ideas.

good question, Louise, but I don't think so. Not impossible, but I don't think so.
It doesn't seem to itch him right now.

two other things: as I look closer it's also on his upper thigh area and arms and hands. (very lightly and small)

and, when I was helping him wipe after a BM I saw about 5-6 little reddish bumps in that area.

someone on a fb lyme page mentioned coxsackie maybe? oh, Lord, I hope not.

Hey stacestar,

I was wondering how your son's feet were meanwhile.

Do you have the possibility to see a dr? I think this might be better since it is spreading. It could be a fungal infection.

If you decide to see a dr, please let us know how it went.

His feet aren't bothering him as of now, although they itched last night.
yeah, I think we'll end up seeing his pediatrician, which stresses me out, since the last time we saw him was in Feb. when he said 3 weeks of abx will do the trick for lyme (we were there to tell him about the lyme dx by llmd.)and I nodded and smiled, knowing full well that we were going to stick with llmd plan and her for his lyme treatment. oh well, I'm not worried about making him happy or not, just want to figure it out.

thanks ToddPaul, but I don't think that's it. I looked at the link, and the pics don't look like what's on son's skin.

his are more tiny, very tiny reddish and some skin colored bumps. some are redder and bigger than others, but most small.

the nurse is having the dr. call me tomorrow. I'm thinking she'll try to see us or have us go to the pediatrician.

Of course I don't know, but my guess is candida or foot and mouth disease (coxsackie virus) that's from me going by symptoms and appearance of the rash.

the fun continues.

I agree; treat the cause.
The dr. did call this evening and said she suspects either a virus or maybe an allergic reaction to one of the abx.
It could definitely just be toxin die-off too.
She said to stop the abx for a couple of days to see if that helps.
Of course, if a virus it will clear on it's own eventually.

I'm hoping it's just a little virus that he fights off quickly or toxin die off that clears up so I don't stress out.

You're right though, it can't all be pretty, cleaning up lyme I mean.
Like when you clean something and often you make a bigger mess in the process.

treat the cause though and the mess of symptoms will be gone; totally agree!

and, I never thought of or heard the info about toxin die off being acidic and creating inflammation. That makes sense.

Does your son have a fever? Many times with these viruses, they cause a fever. There's another virus that causes a rash, forget the name but I believe starts with an R. Molluscum is just a few, skin colored bumps, so it definitely doesn't sound like its that (my kids had it).

I understand that it is important to treat something at the base, not just erasing symptoms, but a fungal infection or other skin conditions can be transmitted to other people. Measures may be necessary to prevent that from happening.

he's doing well. Well, actually at this moment he's kind of tired and moody :/ but overall, he's doing well.
The rash hasn't gotten any worse, in fact maybe slightly better.

The dr. is thinking possibly an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics or a viral rash. She said to hold off on the abx until the rash clears.

I do think it's a good idea, but have also heard that some viral rashes can take a week to go away. I hope not in this in case if that's what it is. I don't like the thought of interrupting his treatment for that long. But I really like and trust this dr., and I know we have to make sure it's not an allergic reaction.

I'm hoping for the virus, so that we don't have to switch abx, since the amoxicillin and azithromycin have been doing great for him so far!
B/c of the temp. and nausea he got right before the rash, in my opinion in seems more like a virus than allergic reaction, so hope so.
