Due to the 1300mg of sodium bicarb in each tablet, I'm sure it does alkalize the body. I've noticed that when I take even regular alka seltzer, I tend to retain water due to the sodium. The water retention combined with the inflammation that I already have from the lyme results in me feeling more discomfort as opposed to less. That's why I was wondering the how's/why's of its efficacy.
