Might be tmi, but what does everyone think about
sex and Lyme? I've read that it can be sexually transmitted.
I was completely healthy before Lyme and I don't recall a tick bite at all. How can this possibly happen?!!

Belle-- many people believe (and I do also...) that Lyme can be transmitted via more than just ticks. I also had NO exposure per say. Don't spend time in woods, bike, hike, camp etc... (Love camping but just haven't for years). Personally I think I was infected via flees or a mosquito...
And re: sex and Lyme yes the consensus seems to be that which you mentioned. Lyme is a spirochete, which can be transmitted in that manner..my LLmd thinks it's possible- fortunately we've been lucky over here.
I also had no rash - have never even seen a tick, but apparently they can latch on and administer a numbing agent so you wouldn't even know you'd been bitten.
It's all such a mystery that is misunderstood huh??

Lyme bacterium is has been found in seminal fluid and vaginal secretions. That's already proven, whether it's transmitted hasn't been proven but I'm sure it is in some instances.

my llmd sad yes lyme can be transmitted through semen or through blood- but not through saliva ( ie sharing a glass). He said it is more likely that the man passes it to a woman than the other way round.

I've been infected for 15 yrs and now my husband is infected, he actually started showing signs when we still lived in south Florida, he has a tremor, muscle aches and others. Not sure but I think he got it from me.

I read this too. It would make sense to have a dating site for people with Lyme is my conclusion.

The answer is yes. There were some studies that were actually just released this year that confirm it. But if you do further research you will find it can actually be in many bodily fluids. Obviously we see spirochetes in our eyes in the bright light, so it obviously likes to go into our eyes, so it's in our tears. Bartonella infects salivary glands of its hosts to ensure it can be transmitted to new hosts. Some people think it can't be transmitted by saliva but many experts say yes it can be.
The reason why the opinion has become so variable and for example some people argue well "I have been married to my spouse for 8 years and she never caught it", is because there are variables in transmission. Such as, is the person treating with antibiotics? If the person is in treatment with abx the risk is much much lower and maybe at times not at all. Also did the person receive successful treatment? If they did it won't be transmitted. Or maybe the person has a really good immune system and their immune system is able to hold off the infection and it didn't reach certain parts of the body?
Also there is some report that if live spirochetes leave the body, and they are in an 'out of host environment' they will want to cyst up and wait for more favorable conditions such as getting into a new host.
Calcutie - I don't think there should be a dating site for Lyme. People should focus on getting treatment and think of dating after they finish their treatment and if they are in relationships should jus take the appropriate precautions. Otherwise you will have to worry about
your treatment being finished AND their treatment to be finished otherwise you could end up reinfecting each other. The two of you might be in totally different phases of treatment.
