Science has the answer and it looks like we need to be careful-
I just read a study where they took monkeys and gave them lymes, diagnosing both through testing and clinically. Then they treated the monkeys with antibiotics and "cured" the infection, determined by again both testing and clinical observation. Then they took ticks who they could not find any infection in and had them bite the monkeys. Then they tested the ticks for lymes bacteria. Guess what? You guessed it, even though the monkeys had a confirmed remission of their lymes symptoms and had received treatment, the ticks who previous to biting the "previously" infected monkeys did not have lymes bacteria, after biting the monkeys they did in fact carry lymes bacteria. The scientists summarized the study as a need to look further into developing better testing as even in the study they had to rely on questionable blood tests for results. But because the tests for ticks carrying the lymes bacteria is pretty straightforward, this was a way to show how it might not be possible to eliminate all the bacteria once infected. And that it is more of an issue of maintaining the health of the immune system rather than "curing" the disease. I can't remember if they them infected more monkeys via the newly infected ticks. But to me just the ticks getting lymes from the symptom free monkeys is scary .
