I would highly recommend the simple saliva test thru "23andMe" - you don't need a doc, but to understand the results, a doc would be helpful ( to say the least )
There are a myriad of other SNPs that you will need to know about
..
This link is completely intimidating and confusing, but if you feel adventurous, try to read about
some of the other genetic issues ... Some things need addressing before the MTHFR ( as MTHFR is just one of a bunch of results you will get )
www.heartfixer.com/AMRI-Nutrigenomics.htm5-MTHF, B6 and B12 are some of the main things with most issues - unfortunately, some people don't do well on B12 ( yours truly ) so it is helpful to have some additional testing .... and remember, it is important that you use "active" forms for certain supplements ... For example, B6 is only useful in the body when it has been converted to P5P - and there are certain genetic issues that require help in this conversion ...
So while taking B6 might seem necessary, you might actually be doing harm if your body cannot convert it to its active form of P5P .... P5P can be supplemented - in other words, you would take the ALREADY CONVERTED form of B6 which your body could then put to use ...
I would really recommend the 23andMe test
