Husband has been diagnosed with positive LD. and is waiting to see an infectious disease physician. He has an appointment for June 18th, but we need to get to a Dr who understands this disease and can help us better understand what we are facing.

We are close to Florence SC, but could travel to Columbia, SC, or even the Medical University of SC in Charleston SC. I've googled with no luck.

Oh my. SC is a bad one, and NC is not much better. There is an LLMD in Raleigh, and another in Asheville, but neither is recommended.
I used to live kind of close to Florence, and that whole area is kind of dead, in terms of savvy doctors, at least from what I remember. Medical Centers in states like ours are pretty bad in terms of Lyme.
I think you will have to fly to the DC area, or northwards. At least Columbia has a pretty good airport, doesn't it?
I used to live in Laurinburg, NC (I grew up there), and I remember (in the early 80s) that I saw more deer ticks there than I've ever seen anywhere else. They would jump up on you (literally) from the sand. My dog, Chino, was infested with them in a major way, and it wasn't long after that that he died. I don't know if Frontline existed back then.
Sorry. I fly to see my LLMD, or I used to, when I could afford him. Feel free to email me. I'm in the NW corner of NC.

PS, DO NOT, do not go see an ID doctor. Please!!! They don't touch Lyme. Lyme Disease is extremely controversial.
Do a search for ID doctors on this forum, and you'll understand. Also, google ID doctors and Lyme (or Chronic Lyme).
You'll see what I mean.

I am sorry I do not know his name (cannot remember) but there is a MD who treats Lyme at USC in Columbia. I actually spoke to him on the phone when I was thinking of moving there. He might be IDS but according to a friend he definitely treats people and understood treating long term. Perhaps you can call there?
Good luck in your search.
