When you're on abx for lyme...there must be lab work to check how your system is functioning.
If you're being treated by a ND, does he give you lab reqs? And if so, do you have to pay out of pocket for the tests.
Or, can my GP fill out lab reqs for liver, kidney function and whatever else is needed while on long-term abx? ie - can she be involved with my care even if I'm seeing a ND for Lyme treatment?

I haven't even been diagnosed yet...but I want to get all prepared...(it's my personality - always getting the cart before the horse)

I had my Lyme test come back negative (IFA) - found out yesterday...good news is my GP recognizes that it is a flawed test.

Yes you are correct. You will have a blood draw every 4-6 weeks depending on how often you see your ND. The ND will give you a standing order for you to take to a lab of your choice unless they have a preferred lab. Insurance should cover but of course check with your carrier. My labs cost approx. $110 and I pay about $32 with insurance. The blood work is called "differentials" and the completed blood work will be sent right back to your ND.
I would keep your GP out of it because the blood work will go back to the ordering Dr and they one that provides you abx is going to want to see your blood work.
It's great to prepare early, it's tough at first to figure it all out. Good for you for being prepared!

Yes, absolutely. Monitoring of your liver enzymes, kidney function, salt balance, etc is part of responsible monitoring of using long term abx for treating Lyme. I believe most LLDs do this, my LLMD requested me to do this, and the LLND also requested me get this done. Most people will actually have no issue with this, however it is still important to check to see how your body is handling the abx.

And yes you can get your GP involved in this monitoring and get him to do the req as well. It is important to have him share results with Dr.C.

I thought that if my GP ordered them, then they're free..and she always prints me a copy of all my lab results. Or, maybe she could put dr.C's name on the lab req along with hers...don't know.
Or, I could just fax them to Dr. C.

I do want my GP in the loop..although she never sleuthed out what is wrong with me yet, she has sent me for extensive blood work this past year..and imaging - mri's, u/s, ct scans, xrays etc...she will be very interested in my treatment - if I have Lyme disease.
I told her about the bill C-442 being passed and she agreed it was long over due.

regarding who pays for labs, for us the insurance does cover them even though we go to llmd who does not accept insurance. Fortunately our insurance gets the labs and prescriptions. Thank the Lord!
