So I was bitten last year, I know when the tick was on me. Three weeks later I got the rash, high fever of 105 for 4 days, aches, etc. Went to my regular dr and was put on doxy for 21 days. Came off and still felt bad so I went to an LLMD. Treated on and off for the past year for about a total of 8 months of the past year. about 2.5 months ago switched LLMDs and started on new meds of hydroxychoroquine, clarithromycin, and some stomach meds. 3 weeks ago found out I was pregnant (this is baby#4 for me). Stopped all meds to trying to figure out what to do. On one hand I am hearing that baby is safe from lyme because I have been on abx for long enough and I am not one of those "lifer undiagnosed" lyme patients. Then I am also hearing that I should be on abx to be on the safe side. But there are risks with being on abx. I am allergic to the two top pregnancy OK'ed abx so the only one I can take is azithro. I am SOOO CONFUSED on what the right thing is to do!!! A huge part of my gut is saying that me and baby will be OK without abx. But then I read online horror stories, but ALL of those are either long term undiagnosed cases OR bitten while pregnant and not getting proper treatment.

Can anyone relate to this? Has anyone been in my situation without abx and baby is OK?

I have heard of ammoxicillin being safe for moms to be. People here have continued treatment and had perfectly healthy babies. But you have to go with your gut instinct and of course consult with your dr. Congrats and prayers for you and your baby.

oh goodness, so sorry, but congrats at the same time! I am assuming you are allergic to penicillins? Zithromax is good - I honestly would go the safe route, and take it, especially if you still have symptoms. My Dr said if you are pregnant, but do not have symptoms, then there is very little chance that it will be passed on to the baby.

I was being treated for Lyme for 4 months when I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd. This was a surprise of course. My daughter was born with Lyme in 2009, I did not know that I had Lyme at the time I was pregnant with her.

I was on zithro all of my pregnancy with my son, I to was scared to take abx but knew that having a daughter that I passed Lyme to and if I was not on abx could also pass it on to my son made me decide to try the abx route. I figured I had a 50/50 chance. I believe it's more of an 18% that you still could pass it on even while on meds. Odds seemed better this way. My OBGYN knew I was on the meds that my LLMD prescribed and just monitored growth and I had three additional ultrasounds. Seeing my daughter’s health issues was the factor that made me to stay on pregnancy safe abx and feel like I had made the right choice.
My son's cord blood was tested and he was negative for Lyme. He was a big healthy boy and of course I did not breast feed him. He is 2 1/2 and totally on track on height, weight and very bright. Talks a lot and as normal as a toddler can be. I am happy that I continued on the meds.
Of course this is a personal decision and there are other outcomes but I personally believe that I would have passed Lyme onto him had I not remained on abx.

Double abx therapy during pregnancy is becoming the standard of care within the ILADS community.
