I was at the hospital with my mother this week and had a chance to talk to the infectious disease doctor. He had treated one case of Babesiosis so he was up on everything. (Sarcasm) He said Babesia was a short and easy treatment and was easily cured with atovaquone and azithromycin. I told him I had it and took those same meds for 4 months and didn't get cured. He said "Then you don't have Babesia." He was really nice until I started telling him things he didn't know.

I am constantly amazed how physicians will only look within their narrow window of knowledge. They will not listen to any layperson on medicine or treatment options. I know medications as good as anyone, more than what most physicians know. But if someone tries to tell me something about a medication, I'll listen because it may be something I don't know. Most doctors are just too arrogant to listen. Needless to say, the IDSA had made him a believer.

Last time I started explaining some Lyme stuff to a specialist (really basic stuff): he was standing in my hospital room, and every few seconds he did a step back until he reached the door, he suddenly turned around saying 'Well, see you later maybe' and off he went.

A few days later, I presented my positive test to another dr at the hospital, she literally threw the paper back at me, without looking at it, saying 'I don't believe that test'.

Shame on them

I know I've said it on here before but an infectious diseases doctor I saw a couple of months ago refused to test me for bart because I don't own a cat.

If these so-called doctors want a real education they should read this forum.

I asked one of my doctors how they felt about lyme and they said, I have no opinion.....

The sad thing is no one even seems to research this stuff..

That's why I've used alternative doctors for the last 27 or so years. They tend to have much more respect...at least the ones I've spoken to, but I had to deal with MDs when I started going to my mom's appointments with her to try to keep her from being put on too many meds. They still managed to ruin her health.

I wonder what they'd do if they ended up with long term Lyme. I'm sorry for those of you who've had to put up with the arrogance and rudeness.

I don't understand why Doctors are behaving this way. They do know Lyme disease exists. It is a fact.

Many times in the past 9 months I have brought up the Lyme disease subject with my Dr. She would just shrug it off. At that time, I didn't really think I had it...because when I went to the websites, I would read flu-like symptoms, fatigue, bulls eye rash. Nope, not me. But, darn it, I'm not a Dr!
Then a couple months ago, when I had been delving deeper into the Lyme disease information, I asked her about getting a test. She said to me, "Oh, have we not tested you for Lyme disease yet?" No kidding...that's what she said.
And then she went on to warn me that all the tests she's done over the years have all come back negative. Which mine did.
This is a Dr. who has tested me for everything and not batted an eye.
It's ridiculous. I still dont know if I have Lyme disease...but I certainly have enough symptoms to suggest it's a possibility.

I've also been to two ND's with the list of symptoms - first one didn't mention Lyme disease as a possiblity...and the second one kept dodging the subject.

Hi Gh, I too am amazed at how little they know. And you def know much more about the disease than they do. I am quite sure you also know the abx, strengths, weaknesses, side effects etc much more than most of them. And YOU unlike him use YOUR KNOWLEDGE to help others. He doesnt sound like he could find his way out of a brown bag.

Not too ironic that pay out of pocket LLMDs are booked solid and these clowns dont have any patients.

Kind of off subject but I took my sick dog to the vet the other day and asked if it could be lyme. She said "oh no there's no lyme in Washington state" Help now what! Do i have to post "Looking for LL vet in Wa St? I just wish someone/Dr's would believe it's here!

picture of health..do not listen to them but do your homework. My mother's dr has been buying vats of doxy to give to her dogs to ward off lyme. I also have a spaniel here who has always tested positive for lyme and now the poor little guy is stone deaf. I believe it is lyme related. I have had many illnesses over the years with the mutts so it may not be Lyme but you want to be sure before you rule it out.

This actually happened:

Back when I was first diagnosed with babesia ( positive blood tests ), I was given mepron and zithromax , but was not told about possible side-effects or what a herxheimer reaction was ( bad job by my ex LLMD )

I ended up in the ER after a few weeks with the most dreadful panic and burning pain - I had not idea what was happening ...

The doctor at the ER had his back to me as he was reading my chart ... As I am sitting there more vulnerable than I ever thought I'd be, he says : "BABESIA ?!?!?! WHERE'D YOU GET THAT ?"

.. to which I replied: Probably my backyard

Then he says: Babesia is so rare we don't even test for it

And so I said : If you don't test for it, how do you know it is rare ?

Needless to say, the conversation went nowhere and he was an absolute idiot

The bad part is, I have 4 or 5 physicians in my hunting club and we're good friends. I've talked candidly about my situation to them and one even said "they taught us that...." and I had to tell him he was wrong. A doctor doesn't take to kindly to an individual telling him his 200K education is wrong. They don't even discuss it with me now. What chaps me off is they know I study this stuff all the time and I'm current on the conditions yet they never ask any questions about it. Some of my patients have suspected Lyme and they still test them with ELISA. I called one physician on his cell phone to tell him what to do to help the patient and he not only didn't answer my call but didn't return it either. I've given up trying to educate them and just tell the patients they need different physicians. Most of my patients can't afford to travel to see a physician so they just don't get treated and their condition spirals downward.
