Hi Aparker,
Welcome to the forum!
I'm sorry you have to be here, but it's a good place for questions and support.
Could I ask you to go through the thread on top of the Lyme page 'New to Lyme?... Start here!'. It's packed with useful information about Lyme and coinfections, symptom lists, different treatment options, useful links, detoxing methods, etc...
LLMD stands for Lyme Literate M.D. Seeing a Infectuous Disease doctor is not advicable cause they are following IDSA guidelines, which are not realistic to say the least.
You can try to find a dr by going to the ILADS website, or by posting a new thread here, asking for a dr in your area (Looking for LLMD in____). Be sure to enable your email address under My Profile, Edit Profile, then click on 'Show my Email address'. This is because we can not post dr's names on the forum. Members will then be able to contact you privately with the information you were asking for.
Is the dr that you are seeing an infectuous disease dr? Cause 2x100mg of doxy for 21 days is definetely not enough to treat Lyme Disease. That is why you need to see a LLMD.
I hate to say this, but there is no fixed treatment duration. It is different for each and every one of us: duration of infection, possible coinfections, medical history of the patient, genes, etc...
The fact that you are feeling like crap since you started the Doxy is probably caused by something called a Herxheimer reaction, a reaction caused by the release of endotoxins when large numbers of organisms are killed by antibiotics. It can cause an aggravation of your symptoms, or flu-like symptoms, more pain, nausea, increase in fatigue, feeling more exhausted, etc...
You need to detox as much as possible to get rid of those toxins that are overwhelming your body. There is a list of detoxing methods in the New to Lyme thread. Please be sure to detox.
Also: use a good brand of strong probiotics while you are on abx.
As for the joint pain: you could try some natural supplements like Curcumin or Boswellia. I use a product called 'Zyflamend' for pain and joint inflammation. (I am in no manner connected to this product or this brand).
This infection is not easy to deal with, since it has an impact on so many levels. The only advice I can give you is: listen to your body, try to keep your stress levels as low as possible, detox, find a LLMD, and go day by day. Don't push yourself into doing extra things that are too much for you to handle right now. If you can work from home, do it. You will get better (there are a lot of success stories here), but first you need to take this hurdle and beat this.
Hang in there and don't hesitate to post.
