Is it possible to be herxing in the middle of the night?
Is that how it works? I thought when you herxed, you would herx for an entire day or two?
So, this is what's been happening to me since I started doxy. Started doxy Friday - have been doing herbals for 6 weeks prior.
Days/evenings no worse, in face had a pretty good day yesterday.
But I am feeling pain in the middle of the night - interrupting my sleep and it lasts for 2-3 hours - I just lay there, and then it's difficult to get back to sleep after that. I never used to have pain during sleep time.
Also having bad dreams again (they've been gone for several months now)
So, I am hoping this is herxing...and I will adapt by having a nap during the day for an hour or so.
Is it possible to not herx all day, but to herx in the middle of the night?
I got up in a "dither" this morning - stressing my poor husband out before he goes off to work. I gotta try and keep a lid on it for his sake.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this, Girlie! It always felt so much worse in the middle of the night for me. I think it's because many things feel much worse in the middle of the night - fevers, pain, and anything that's upsetting our 'balance'- or what we have left of it!
Yes, herxing can happen at any time during the day or night. We heal the best at night, so it actually makes sense that if this is the time the body can make the most progress, that it's also the time when herxing can get kind of intense too.
Herxing doesn't have any set schedule really. I herxed for 3 weeks straight when I started my Bartonella treatments! That was rough! It was day and night, although it wasn't super intense most of that time, it was distressing and tiring!
The best thing would likely to increase your detoxing during the day - or maybe even take a detox soak just before going to bed if this seems to repeat itself. Many have found that a detox soak just before bed actually relaxes them and helps them sleep better.
I'm so sorry that you are going through this! I hope that you feel better soon!

Thanks Trav - It's good to know that it's all part of the healing process.
I guess it's different for everyone. For me, sleep has always been a healer - I've always slept well and used to joke about
sleep being a hobby of mine. Maybe that's why it's so upsetting for me.
The pain is unrelenting with this lyme disease. We all deserve medals if we're sane by the time we're better!

LOL! Agreed!!! I hereby order medals to be awarded for all those that make it through the healing process!!
Giggle!
However, if it gets to be too much, and increasing your detoxing doesn't help, be sure to talk to your doctor about
it.

I gotta get a Doctor first!! lol
My GP (PCP in US?) gave me the prescript
ion...on my request...she knows nothing about
Lyme disease (hence the UNdiagnosis)...but did prescribe a fellow azythromicin and mepron over a year ago...after he tried "many things" - and those two meds were recommended by our ND in town who consults with a retired LLMD
She offered them to me...and I looked at it and said, "That looks like Babesia treatment. No, I don't want to start there...not sure if I have it...but I would like doxycycline 200 mg. x 2.
(The fellow is "a new man" according to my GP)

Trav - I just read your post to Lymepickle re: herxing and cytokine storm danger - and I will take heed.
I may back off on my doxy a tad.
instead of 200 mg X2, I may take 200mg followed by 100 mg.

Each of us reacts so differently to these meds - just be sure to watch for signs of herxing (like you had) and don't push too hard through it. Herxing is a warning system for our bodies, the worse it gets, the closer to critical you can be. If you happen to detox well, you may be able to tolerate what many can't, just be careful and listen to your body. And detox like crazy!!
