Hi, Y'all.

I haven't been diagnosed with Lyme, but I'm curious about the effects of Lyme on the eyes.

After having what I think was the bulls eye rash, I had a case of pink eye. Did any of you have that?

And these conditions sound like an allergy, but they are all new to me. The whites of both my eyes are a light reddish color all the time. The corners itch from time to time. And I occasionally feel like a needle has pricked my eyeball.

Hi Miss Jane,
I had a period of time when my eyes got pink like you described, they itched. Also till I started treatment I would get sharp pains through my eyes, I asked multiple eye docs about it but of course they said everything looked normal.

Sorry to say, if you had a bulls eye after a tick bite, then unfortunately you have Lyme. This forum is the best place to be to answer all your questions.

Have you taken the time to read at the top of the forum, New to Lyme? I would start there, it will answer a lot of questions.

Thanks for the reply, Revive. My bulls eye rash was diagnosed as ringworm, but I don't think that diagnosis was correct. I've had lots of tick bites. The pcp's test was negative for Lyme. But, after reading the info on this forum, I made an appointment with an LLMD . Come September, I'll know more.

This is funny because I've had Lyme for a year now with no eye problems. But the past few nights, I've woken up with extremely itchy eyes. My eyes are bloodshot and red and raw now. I started new meds so I'm guessing this had something to do with it.

My husband has always had problems with his eyes though ever since he got Lyme. Always dry and itchy.

Elleon, your mention of red and raw reminded me that my eyes have been burning the last couple of days, like I got soap in them.

Mississippi Jane, I found these eye symptoms off a Lyme and co-infection chart. These are the eye symptoms for bartenolla:

.....eye disturbances....

**Many eye disorders
-vision loss
-eye infections
-Red eyes
-intense pressure
-Vision loss, blurred vision, light sensitivity,
-eye infections
-Pain behind the eyes

You're welcome, I'm surprised bartenolla isn't mentioned more, b/c it's such a common infection. The testing for it isn't accurate and it's very hard to get rid of. VERY!

Bartonella will usually make Lyme harder to treat - and Lyme usually makes Bartonella harder to treat. Part of the reason why I chose to treat both Lyme and Bart at the same time. The herxing that can happen with treatments can make it impossible for some to treat both at the same time though.

Both Lyme and Bart can affect the eyes though. You can try lubricating eye drops that have no boric acid in them. It's a bit more costly, but worth not having them burn so bad!
