Hello all - Lyme in MA - My story

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading these forums for weeks and decided to sign up to see if I can help offer any thoughts about my lyme experiences and hoping you all could offer some of your wisdom.

I was diagnosed with Lyme on April 7th of this year. I have been having symptoms for many years but this past year has been the worst.

The only reason we found the lyme was because I starting running on my treadmill again in the basement (which at the time I didn't know was covered in mold). I started having all these weird rashes and hive outbreaks.

One hive outbreak was so bad I went to the ER and they gave me three doses of Prednisone to calm it down. This made my body even worse. I had such a bad reaction to the Prednisone I had to call an ambulance one night because I thought I was having a stroke.

Went to the hospital and all tests were fine, they pretty much told me I was crazy and assumed I was on drugs even though they suspected some reaction to the prednisone.

I had facial paralysis, the left side of my body was numb and I couldn't speak. It was the most frighting experience of my life.

While at the hospital I was also searching this on the internet myself and that's when I came across a website where another woman was finally diagnosed with Lyme after having a bad reaction to Prednisone. People with Lyme are not supposed to have Steroids.

I made an appointment with an LLMD right away. I have had several tick bites over the years (I live in the state forest) - and never thought twice about it.

She diagnosed me clinically with Lyme & babesia based on my symptoms in April. She did run bloodwork but all tests for co-infections were negative and I only had one positive band (lgm 23) and a CD57 level of 22.

It is now July, and I am few months into treatment and I had to leave our home because of the mold. I was having trouble breathing and my feet would go numb as soon as I went into the house.

My husband stayed behind, but I packed up myself and my two furbabies and went to stay with my mom (thank goodness for mom's). I have been there for three weeks.

My life is upside down. I am starting to think my husband think's I'm borderline crazy but he also doesn't understand I have NO immune system. The mold just eats away at me.

I don't think it's a lot to ask to want to be healthy, My actions are not selfish and there are times if I wonder if I should just suck it up and go home.

Reading all of your thoughts and stories has been helpful for me, it's always nice knowing their are other people in the same situation.

Hi Kbone, I am in MA too and I also have a mold problem. I have been taking Cholestyramine for it. Sorry you had to join us!

We were diagnosed in the same week and I live in Massachusetts too.

Don't worry about what people think just do whatever you have to do to be well.
