removing tonsils?

I read somewhere that you can't get well if your tonsils have been compromised. My epicenter of this infection is in the throat area. I found a doc that could remove my tonsils under local as a "office" procedure.

I'm not sure if I want to go through the trauma of that but I want to get well. Anyone take out their tonsils for lyme recovery?

I'm from the generation when they took your tonsils out if you as much as coughed when you were a kid.
Mine got taken when I was 5 years old.

Have you talked to a LLMD and asked his/her opinion?

Because you're considering this, I can assume that you're not feeling any better, Louise?
I'm so sorry you have to make this decision. It's not an easy decision to make...and having Lyme makes it all the harder to make important decisions...(well for me anyway...)

If you decide to have it done, you will be okay. At this point you're not making progress...so I don't think it can really set you back?

I had my tonsils removed years ago, way before I got Lyme.

They were removed using local anaesthetic and it was a nightmare.

If I were you,I wouldn't undergo this OP unless it is absolutely essential.Of course local isn't as invasive as full anaethetic but it was an "experience" that I would never wish to repeat .The problem isn't the pain.it's wanting to cough when the blood hits the back of your throat,I felt as if I was choking,it was very distressing and I nearly lost conciousness.

Sorry if I've scared you but my intentions are well meant :-)

I wouldn't suggest having any kind of surgery while trying to heal from Lyme unless it was absolutely necessary either.

My reasoning is because Lyme gets it's advantage when our immune system is lowered, and stress lowers our immune system. Surgery -even minor surgery- is incredibly stressful on the body, as well as the anethesia being stressful on the body. Stress is also hard on the adrenals, and many of us have low functioning adrenals on top of Lyme and other infections/viruses.

If you do choose to have this done though - be sure to let the doctor know well in advance if you are taking anything to thin the blood and all the other meds/herbs you may be taking - they could interact with the anethesia or increase your bleeding.

I'm also from the time when it was common to remove them. If I still had them, I don't think I'd chose to get rid of them since they do have some purpose in our bodies, otherwise they wouldn't be there. That's just my opinion, though. I agree that it would be a stress on your system if you do choose to remove them.

My daughter still has hers and doesn't seem to have a problem with them now. I think they were swollen for several years until our homeopath put her on a remedy that put an end to that. She was finally able to swallow pills after that.

Tonsils are part of your immune and lymphatic system. They help you fight infection. The reason your throat becomes sore when you catch a cold is because the tonsils are trying to rid the body of the virus or infection.

You might want to talk to your LLMD first. Once they're gone, you can't get them back.

I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other, I believe it's your personal decision:) You know your body better than anyone else.

No, it's all helpful. These comments are inspiring me to put it on hold and possible start with getting rid of the silver in my mouth instead. I thought he would think I was crazy but, my husband is actually really on board with that.

I think starting with the metal is an excellent idea. Once you get it taken out, look into a supplement called zeolite - it's very effective at removing heavy metals and toxins in the body.

I had my tonsils out at 21, long before any of my serious illnesses. I did it in a hospital and completely sedated. It was a godsend for me because I'd had pharyngitis that wasn't responding to antibiotics for over five months. I was also one of those kids who got strep & ear infections multiple times a year growing up. I didn't get strep/pharnygitis/ear infections for eight years and didn't have any other major ENT issues during that time.

Now that I'm immuno-compromised, I get infections a lot more (multiple times/year). I would be much more hesitant to do it today than when I was 21 and healthy.
