Cowden causes a massive herx, and involves a lot of herbs. Plus, if you do the whole thing, it's super expensive. Personally, I think Cowden could be dangerous as well, if you follow the protocol exactly the way he outlines it.
I had good results with Cowden, but I only did a few of the herbs, and I slowed down the pace, WAY DOWN.
Most of the major protocols, in my opinion, are good. The great thing about both Buhner and Cowden is that you can order the herbs individually online, and they aren't horribly expensive (as long as you don't buy into the whole package). With Buhner, you don't even need a particular "brand;" he just tells you which herbs to use for which disease, and you can order them anywhere you want.
I prefer teas to tinctures, bc I don't like the alcohol.
I don't think the salt Vit. C thing is considered one of the major protocols. Stick with herbs, and with what is known to work.
