Does anyone have hair loss?

My hair has been shedding like crazy. It's so much thinner. Does Lyme cause this??? If so, does the hair loss stop when antibiotics are started?

I have an appointment with a LLMD in two weeks. I'm still waiting for an official diagnosis.

Please tell me the hair loss will stop. I am so depressed about losing all my hair. Even the texture has changed! It's become more dry and frizzy.

Ugghhh….. mine too. It's been bad for about 8 yrs—and I went to a specialist at the time who didn't test my hormone levels, but had he, they probably would have registered normal. My thyroid is off but none of the tests show it. Anyway, throughout 2014 the hair loss has become extreme… this is so heartbreaking—it's bad enough to have just about everything in your body falling apart. But to also lose all my hair (it's gone nearly completely throughout my body) on my head clump by clump is enough to send me into a deep depression. I increased my thyroid meds, no help. I started taking japanese knotweed and wobenzyme+ to address inflammation, no help. I also increased huperzine doses, no help. I don't know what else to try.

Hi Utah,

Yes, hair loss is very common with lyme and so is the dry, frizzy texture. It DOES come back but for me it took awhile. Granted it doesn't count now b/c I'm pregnant and hair is growing everywhere but before that I would say I had a good 20-25% hair loss that took about a year to come back. Same thing with my nails - they were really rigid and bumpy and my fingernails normalized after about 5 months but toe nails were about a year also.

Don't worry about your hair! It will come back! And hey, at least hair loss doesn't hurt ;)

My daughter lost a lot of hair, but fortunately, she had a thick head of hair. I can't tell if some of it has come back or not, but it doesn't fall out so much like it used to. It shocked the last woman who cut her hair when she started combing through it.

Crazy, I was just coming to ask about this. It's coming out in clumps when I brush my hair. I don't have any bald patches or anything but it's definitely thinner than it was a week ago!

Mine is falling out bad, notice it cause it plugs up the drains. It stopped once I started the thyroid meds but it started doing it again really bad.

Welp… my lymebrain just remembered something that might make us all feel a little less "alone" in our journey towards much less hair…

I was living in NYC when I believe I was infected (while on a week-long business trip to MA) and although I don't have a lot of hair to begin with, I noticed I was losing a lot of hair and what I had growing in was much thinner. I searched for an alopecia specialist (a friend has alopecia so I thought that was what was happening to me). Turns out he also created his own product line, that I LOVED but eventuality could not afford. And also, his "salon" provided these AMAZING 30-min. cranial massages. OMG. They were amazing.

Anyway, one day I was sitting there getting my treatment, in a yummy half-asleep daze, and in walks in--- Catherine Zeta Jones. She sits in the chair right next to me. She was just as you would think she would be—tall, lithe, gorgeous, lovely… and she, too, was there for treatment. We are not alone…

I know!! I lived in NYC for a decade and saw famous people all the time. Although I never approached them, I am silly in that I never got "used to it" and I always thought it was super cool and under my calm and indifferent exterior I was as giddy as a schoolgirl. I literally ran into Ethan Hawke one afternoon—neither of us were paying attention to where we were walking. I nearly melted. Have quite a few stories like that. Maybe. Hope I haven't forgotten all of them!
