MJ—
I had the same diagnoses—lyme, yeast infection, food allergies, thyroid issues. I also had a very high viral load by the time I got to an LLMD. She treated me for the viral and fungal overload first… THANKFULLY. I was so sick I was barely functioning. I think those issues are well under control now. But even then, I have days of extreme exhaustion. The kind where I cannot stay awake. The kind where I am out of breath walking 10 feet from the kitchen table to the fridge. The kind where I am out of it for a day or two after a bike ride.
The "food allergies" are almost always the result of leaky gut syndrome. That is something that you REALLY need to familiarize yourself with. If you're developing sensitivities to foods, it means the mucosal lining of your intestines is damaged and food toxins are leaking out of it, triggering your immune system to develop antibodies against those food toxins and therefore, sensitivities to those foods you're eating. But of most concern is that your immune system IS your gut—the mucosal intestinal lining is the immune system's first line of defense so if that isn't healthy, your immune system is struggling. And if your immune system isn't functioning well, you will not heal well.
The thyroid issues are also likely part of a bigger challenge, which is your adrenals. They go into overdrive when you're sick (also why you are tired—look up adrenal fatigue). The thyroid and adrenals are part of the HPA (hypothalamus axis), which are tied directly into digestive and immune health.
I had very few specific symptoms for 15 yrs—other than thyroid issues, sore legs and feet, slight cognitive problems, personality change, and exhaustion and this feeling deep inside that something was wrong. I didn't start having migrating joint and muscle pain until last year, when throughout 2013 I battled chronic sinusitis and bronchitis with various courses of antibiotics and steroids (not knowing I had lyme & co.) and low-and-behold, those meds kept making me sicker.
Turns out they were caused by a severe yeast/fungal overgrowth, which was exacerbated by the antibiotics so until I started taking antifungals, I remained very sick. BUT—the antibiotics also brought about
very specific lyme, bartonella and babesia symptoms (migrating joint pain, muscle pain, heightened cognitive problems, insomnia, night sweats, sore soles of my feet, weak fingers/hands, eye-sight strain, sensitivity to light, hair loss throughout entire body, awkward gait when I walk, lyme rage, aspberger's tendencies, strange looking lesions throughout my body… I could go on and on. But the point is, for 15 yrs after I was likely infected I had very few symptoms—just mainly fatigue. Throughout those 15 yrs I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypochondriac, etc. (those are all names for symptoms, not causes of the symptoms so they do no good except to make the Doc feel like he's done something). And I just suffered on.
It's awesome that you found an LLMD you like. Anxious to hear about
your IGeneX. My LLMD gave me an ELISA first, which was negative. We then "provoked" the lyme with olive leaf extract for about
a month and she retested with IGeneX, which came up CDC-positive (the holy grail). That might help if you test negative this first time.
Good luck and report back!
