does anyone know why (or how) lyme causes ear ringing? it's a relatively common symptom, right? i've had it from the beginning of my onset of symptoms.

i added bactrim to my regimen a couple days ago, and I had a one night monster herx, and then everything settled down, except…the ringing. it's never been this loud.

on my long list of symptoms, ringing in the ear is at the bottom of my concerns, but i am AMAZED at how loud it is right now. this morning when i woke up, i thought it was coming from outside, haha.

I also get ear ringing! It is very obnoxious and annoying. And I don't know what to do about it :(

I get this. But I also don't know if I have lymes... because of this, among other symptoms, I suspect I do. Wish it would go away. Once I find out if I do or not, I'm hoping some form of treatment helps.

I had it off and on for years, then after several months of treatment it went away. Now every once in awhile it happens for a short time and then goes away again, can't wait till it's gone, it's so annoying.

I also got several other weird things happening, sharp pains in the ears, or like someone turned the volume down, some other thing like something was jumping up against my eardrum but it didn't hurt and the ringing.

Hopefully it will quit soon with your treatment, it can be annoying.

Yeah, most of my other symptoms (except my nasty facial pain, which has remained the same) have gone away or severely lessened since treatment. The ear ringing is the only one that has gotten worse.

I wonder if it's a residual thing from my Bectrim herx.

Revive - It's nice to know that treatment can make it go away, even if it is temporary. I also get weird ear pains sometimes too…like a dull ache. Before I knew I had lyme, I would go to the doctor and be sure that I had an ear infection, but I wouldn't. Now I know it's just lyme being it's weird self.

I just wonder how/why lyme causes the ears to ring?

Question to you all. Is it an actual "ring" or does it sound more like a "hiss" in the ear?

I was getting the ringing sound but also had 3 or 4 other things also going on in the ear which have all subsided and will come back just for a little while only once in a great while, thank God cause it can drive you crazy.

tinnitus - which creates all kinds of sounds in the ears - especially if they are annoying - is due to Neuro Lyme.

I've been "blessed" with this for a second time now. I'd like to rip off my ears, but the ringing would just continue and I'd have no where to hang my earrings, so I leave them on there.

My husband Toby has tinnitus and it got worse with the head injury. It is so loud he can hardly hear loud music. I can't believe everything he has gone through. The thing is, we don't know what caused the Tinnitus because the ringing started years ago after we went to a rock concert. The last band that played was crazy loud so we attributed the ringing to that experience. It makes me wonder if Lyme - which we didn't know he had then - could have triggered the Tinnitus. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The accident obviously made it worse for him. He will see an ENT doc soon.

I have ear pain, rather than the ringing, but the non Lyme literate doctors look at me like I'm crazy and tell me my ear is fine, so I know how that is.

As I said, tinnitus can be attributed to Neuro Lyme- you can find it mentioned again and again in literature - just Google Lyme, tinnitus.

I've got tinnitus, too. I believe it's from a combo of things. I played piano in a band and the drums were just about 10 feet from my left ear. That's when it started. Then the neuro lyme. But something else that no one mentioned is that many medications, including antibiotics, are considered ototoxic, meaning they are toxic to the ears/hearing. I have had problems with my ears for a couple of years, but since early December they have been much worse, have been given lots abx but every time I try and stop them it comes back worse than before, my ears just weep all the time and are very red and inflamed. I don't get ringing but more like a generator noise in my ears and when I lay my head on the pillow sometimes it gets so loud I one or twice thought a helicopter was circling over the house !!

I don't often get really down but at the moment I have had enough of this continual fight and feel I am losing the battle, I don't have quality of life at all at the moment. I have had a very busy week, it was unavoidable and I am paying the price as I knew I would, my symptoms have really kicked in today. I am so tired of this and never feeling well, I feel like I don't know who I am anymore !
