For the past couple of months my sleep issues have resolved. Last winter and spring, I was waking up every two hours in a panic, gasping for air...and loud snoring...hubby had to wear ear plugs. I did a sleep study at home...and was told I had sleep apnea. I tried the c-pap machine, but it didn't help my sleep. I didn't purchase it and when they questioned me...I said i wanted to find out why I have this sudden onset sleep apnea. They said that I would have had it for years...and no need to find out what is causing it.
I wasn't happy with that. My husband said "that's bull---- - I KNOW you haven't had it for years...because I would have known"
-And I have shared a hotel room with three other people in the past 5 years...and all of them said they didn't hear snoring or gasping, etc.

Anyway, since lyme treatment my sleep apnea has gone away...as far as me and hubby can tell. I haven't done another sleep study...but my husband has been awake at different times of the night in the past three weeks and said my breathing is steady, even, and not noisy...and I have not been waking up more than once a night...and it's not a panic...just a little bit of anxiety.

The last couple of nights...I have woken up three or four times each night...and had some anxiety, as well.
I started Ammox just under 4 weeks ago...and added biaxin about 4 days ago.

Do herxes affect all symptoms? Even your sleep patterns? How do i tell if I'm just getting my old symptoms back because the ammox may not be working as well as the doxy was. (was on doxy july and added zithro end of july. stopped both end of august) or if it's a herx?

I also got a new symptom in august when I was on the doxy/zithro - sore shoulders...is it possible to get new symptoms after you've been treating? Could it be bart coming out?

It's all so hard to figure out.

It is all hard to figure out!! There are no tests to guide us though, so we have to just make do. Basically, if you are detoxing well, and the symptoms continue to get worse, then it's possible it's another infection driving that symptom.

Yes, herxing can affect any and all of your symptoms - or just one or two!

Usually it's just a detoxing issue, so if you really ramped up what you were doing for detoxing, it's likely that will ease your symptoms.

You may have to call your LLMD to talk with them on this to figure it out for sure, but I'd start doing all I could to detox first to see if it helps.

Speaking of sleep symptoms - I was pondering mine last night. With this second time around with Lyme disease, my insomnia is going away - very odd!! I'm finally able to sleep more than just 5 hours with being under heavy medication. All I take now is magnesium and melatonin.

I'm hoping it's just a blip! I know that when symptoms leave...they can rear their heads every now and again...The sleep issues haven't been gone for that long...maybe two months...but they slowly got better...so I will see over the next few nights.

So are you saying your sleeping better than prior to getting the 2nd round of lyme?

Girly - my best bet would be that yes, it is due to the introduction of new antibiotics. My symptoms would flare up whenever I switched to something. That's aweful though - I think the worse symptom next to extreme pain for me was the insomnia and anxiety thing, ugh! hang in there!

so what happened that you switched antibiotics?

Traveler - My husband told me the same thing last night - that I'm a fighter...and he's always considered me the strong one in the relationship...wow! Never knew he thought that.
But, I don't feel like I'm strong...I feel like a big baby.
My 21 year old son came over a few days ago...and asked me how I was...I told him a couple things were better, but I had a long way to go. He said, "mom - you're tough. It's in your genes. You'll get better."
Of course I got all teary when he said that.

Wow - that's great that your sleeping better now...wonder how that is...but hey...don't question it...something in your 'hooch' is working.

Chapelle: I was self treating all of July until my LLND appt at end of August. I was on doxy, then added zithro...got a rash on my back. The LLND wanted to switch abx....felt I was on doxy long enough and likes to see more improvement than I had...and thought the zithro was causing the rash. So he started me on ammox - seems like a high dose 1000 mg X 3 along with Probenacid (sp?) to keep blood levels up. After 4 weeks, he added biaxin 500 mg X 2.
The sleep issues happened after I got to biaxin 250 X 2 (ramping up slowly)
I would be willing to try doxy and zithro again...as I had some good days in August. I did get a one day rash since I've been off them...so am wondering if the rash is just a symptom of lyme...who the heck knows!
I think he wants me on a cyst buster next - Tindamax...but I'm thinking I'd like to try rifampin or something for the bart. As, I'm thinking that the increase in some symptoms may be bart rearing it's head. Again...who the heck knows!! trial and error.

Awwww!! Just gotta love it when the kids are so supportive!! I cry when my kids say things like that right now too. I'm much more emotional that I usually am - and I'm usually a fairly emotional person!!! smhair LOL! My daughter likes to say I'm not emotional, I'm passionate - very passionate! LOL!

Hey girlie. I just wanted to say, it's because you added in the biaxin. Biaxin is actually an excellent lyme drug. It's getting all the bugs that are living inside your cells which the amoxicillin doesn't get to. It also gets into the brain, and into the tissues really well.

When I went on biaxin... My symptoms got bad for 3 weeks! I thought I had a full blown relapse at first, all my muscles were on fire... But then after 1 month of biaxin I felt soooo much better! You are herxing right now that is why you are feeling worse. I think it's more effective than azithromycin when it comes to lyme.

My own suggestion if it gets too bad... Maybe reduce the amoxicillin? Maybe run it through Dr. C.

But Ya biaxin is a really good lyme drug, that's why you have an increase in symptoms. Eventually biaxin gets to the point where it's just a pill and you get no symptoms from it.

Thanks LP - I'll take your word for it. That's what I want to believe...that I'm herxing.
I actually have had an increase in another symptom - chills/shivers.
I just feel like these meds are so strong...3000 Ammox plus the probenecid "enhancement" along with 1000 biaxin (daily totals)...yikes.
I'm weighing in at 126 lbs. hope it's not too much for me.

I herxed on the doxy...for 12 days.. before adding zithro...and had a little herx again after the zithro ....then had a few better days (probably only 50% better) that was near the end of august.
But since then, I haven't had any real good days that I can think of.

I think we can all agree that patience is very elusive when we are herxing!!
