Completely overwhelmed by Buhner

I am trying to read Buhner's book on co infections. I didn't realize that I was supposed to read, "Healing Lyme" first. It is way to technical for me to grasp right now with my diminished brain function and attention deficit.

I am totally overwhelmed about coinfections and their treatment with herbs. I don't know how to tell which coinfections I have. He consistently says that labs are inaccurate. So, I don't even know where to begin. I just don't know which infections I have!

Then, the herbs he suggests are overwhelming! The list goes on and on! Seriously, how many herbs am I supposed to buy and take!?! I was hoping to get 3 or 4 herbs, not 10!

Then, I'm suppose to prepare the herbs myself? They don't come in capsules? Am I suppose to "make my own"?

I want to help myself, but I am so overwhelmed to the point of panic. Do I try to find a local herbalist? How do I find one?

Someone please help me try to understand this.

Utahgal, Buhner has a list of herbalists he kind of recommends. Since I don't know what part of Utah you live in, I'm going to send you ones in the neighboring states as well. It's not a long list, but if you can even call them for consults, I would encourage you to do so. They have a working knowledge of his protocols and will likely be able to guide you even over the phone.

The herbs do come in capsules, at least some of them.

Are you not discussing coinfections with your doctor? It's a difficult thing to figure out on your own.

That's interesting MM - I didn't think buhner's was that complicated - maybe because I haven't purchased the book.
I was just going by the website - and at this point just the lyme herbs. I guess it gets more complicated when you add in the bart/babesia herbs?

It gets expensive switching up protocols, doesn't it? I have unused antibiotics gathering up in the house...

Ok, so, I find Buhner's website a lot easier to follow and it's less overwhelming!

It looks like all he lists for Lyme core protocol is:
Japanese knotweed
Cat's claw ( but I already take samento, so I may not need this)
Eleuthero

I don't know for sure what my coinfections are yet, so I won't order those herbs yet. But, is there anything else I should add for basic Lyme?

I may have to burn the book since it literally gave me a panic attack today. It seriously flipped me out. Not like me at all.

I contacted a local herbalist today, and she seemed clueless about Lyme. She seemed to suggest that Lyme is a lost cause.

Utahgal, just my personal opinion- our llmd knows a lot about herbs for lyme. I would not feel the need to try to figure it out on your own since you have this llmd. If you don't feel your nd is as much as you need then make your next appointment with the main doctor ( that is who I see) and ask them about herbals. they know a lot about this- and I think the herbals they do are good. I am still learning too.

But your treatment is good and they will add coinfection things for you- I think it may be too much to do the full treatment from the llmd ( antibiotics and lots of herbals) plus cowden and or buhner-- it is too much- I think ask your doctor- I am just saying I have been working with them for 6 months and they know a lot- ask them/ Tell them you want to add as many herbals as you can to have the strongest treatment you can- and see what they say. You don't need to figure it out all on your own.

Any doc/herbalist that says no one gets better and everyone relapse just doesn't know how to treat. We have many members that recover well - I had until that fateful date I had with one tick........ Grrrr!

And always remember, it's always one step at a time. Take a deep breathe and when you feel overwhelmed, step back. You can always do as you did this time and post on here asking for help!!

Don't add in more than one thing every three days to give yourself a chance to see how your body will respond. Adding in more than one thing will make you wonder which one caused what.

That's one of the problems with my treatment - 11 different herbs combined to make one herbal tea to treat Lyme, so there's no adding in one thing at a time, since they all work together to make it effective. But it worked so well for me the first time around - and I know exactly what I'm doing with it, I chose to stick to what I knew and what I knew worked for me.
