Hey gang,
Last year's blood work showed fibrinogen levels at 399 (ref: 100-500), plus slightly elevated cholesterol / triglycerides. I had blood work done again last week and the cholesterol / triglycerides is slightly higher, and the fibrinogen are now at 514 (!!!). And I've been taking an enzyme supplement (Neprinol).
This has me concerned enough to have emailed the company that produces Neprinol and ask for their input. Heart palpitations are still an issue, although they have decreased since starting the enzymes. But, one would think that my blood work would've shown a decrease as well.
In doing a bit of research tonight re: how to lower fibrinogen levels, I stumbled upon the following article from the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
http://www.nature.com/ejcn/journal/v56/n11/full/1601459a.html
The irony is in the following quote: "....The present study showed that a moderate dose of alcohol with evening dinner decreased plasma CRP (35%) and fibrinogen concentrations (12%) in healthy middle-aged men and postmenopausal women already within 3 weeks. ...."
Sadly, having MTHFR issues, my liver tends to not metabolize alcohol.... beer has always made me feel like crap so, I rarely drink. I can do rum & coke. I wonder if that would thin one's blood????
And a quick google search brings up even more correlation between albohol and fibrinogen.... interesting.
