So confused about doxy

I was on doxy for approx. 5 weeks ( I have a persription for 3 months) I went off doxy 4 days ago, because I couldn't take the fatigue anymore. My biggest symptom has always been fatigue, but since starting on the doxy, it's even been worse (I didn't think that was possible). Since coming off doxy the fatigue has not let up. Is it possible that my body was herxing the whole time I was on doxy? ( yes, I was detoxing while on the doxy, salt & peroxide baths, dry brushing, lots of water, trying to get used to drinking lemon water). If my body was herxing from the doxy, how come it hasn't stopped? I'm still close to a month a way from seeing a LLND for the first time. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Any increase in symptoms is a herx. And being on antibiotics can produce fatigue. Even after four days there will be some doxy in your system.

You detoxed, but how did you do with probiotics? A yeast (candida) overgrowth can also produce fatigue.

IMHO you should stay on the doxy, you will turn the corner soon.

Sorry you're feeling awful!

Did you ramp up slowly to full dose doxy? And how long after taking doxy did the worsening of fatigue start?

If it was a herx, then I think perhaps you still feel the effects because your detoxing hasn't caught up with the toxins in your body created by the die-off.

Achievinggrace, I have not noticed any candida, I've been taking probiotics, so I'm assuming that helped.
Girlie, I started at 100mg x 2 a day, two weeks later up to 200mg x2 a day, it was just days after starting doxy that my fatigue worsened.

Sounds like a classic herx. My LLMD says that the worse you feel in the beginning the better you will feel in the long run. When I first started on doxy I thought I should see some tire marks from the very large truck that hit me!

Yes. It sounds like a herx to me. I would go rt back on it and detox as much as you can. I felt the same exact way. I herxed for weeks once I started the doxy and got way worse before I got better. Hang in there and don't give up. Doxy is a good drug. I was treating with it for three months then added zithromax. Two months later is when I finally felt like my head was above water so u do need to be patient. I treated with abx for a total of seven and a half months. Just stopped four weeks ago.

I agree with Chapelle - go back on it...of course make sure you mention this to your LLMD.

I'm thinking you were probably herxing on the lower amount...and then when you went to full dose...it put you over the edge...and that's why the herx maybe continued even after you stopped.

What's happening now?

Doxycyline made me feel awful for awhile then after a ton of herxing the brutal fatigue started to become manageable. Fatigue is a big part of antibiotics because they are so hard on your body. But well worth it to take in order to beat this disease

Chapelle,Girlie & Lymebarthiker, thanks so much for your input, it's been close to a week off of doxy & I haven't noticed any change! I'm thinking if there is still no change in the fatigue in a couple days, I might start doxy again.

Please consider EBV too! I have read that this virus can be also a cause of chronic fatigue syndrom.
