MTHFR A1298C...help!

I have 2 copies of this mutation (homozygous). My LLMD said it could be the cause of some of my issues......anxiety, insomnia, brain fog.

I was wondering what supplements to take. I was given something called 5-mthfr, or something like that.

What else can I take or do? I tried reading a site by Dr. Ben called MTHFR.net, but it is overwhelming and confusing.

I am hoping someone can walk me through this. I am worried.

While I already take a bunch of supplements, I've added several from his list (I try one/week so I can gauge response).

I feel ALA has helped with my neurological issues - they're not gone but are definitely better.

I started a new multi that's geared towards immune support and it contains 500mg acetyl-l-carnitine.
My energy improved greatly since starting it....not sure if it's a coincidence....not sure if it's due to the slight increase in my thyroid meds I needed but, I'll take it :)

I already ordered NT-factor and plan on taking that as well.

Dr. Jernigan (Hansa Clinic) believes we are not doomed by our MTHFR issues. It sounds like your LLMD is addressing yours.

MTHFR A1298C causes an increase in ammonia because the mutation decreases the body's ability to generate & recycle BH4. BH4 is used to detox ammonia.

Lyme generates ammonia as a toxin, thus increasing the burden on BH4. Aluminum toxicity also decreases the body's ability to eliminate ammonia, further burdening BH4.

To address this, one may need to reduce their intake of foods that increase ammonia in the body (high protein foods), and use Yucca Root powder sprinkled on meals containing protein-rich foods.

Also, there is a Charcoal/Magnesium Flush at the below website link that can help remove excess ammonia from the gut.
