Waiting for results and kind of freaking out!

So, after six years of misdiagnoses and being told that their is nothing the doctor's could do for me, I finally found a doctor with some answers. I went to an LLMD and he definitely thinks I have both Lyme and Bartonellosis. Part of me is happy to know what is going on but this isn't really an ideal diagnosis. I am just scared of what my future holds for me. I can't imagine it is going to be easy to treat after 6 years. I am only 19 and I really just want to go to college and be a normal teenager. I don't mean to complain it is just.. hard. But you all know that. I am really trying but I am terrified. I have heard a lot about how even when the treatment works you get a lot worse before you get better and a lot of times the treatments don't work. I just don't know what to believe. I was also wondering what everyone's thoughts on the antibiotics are. Are the oral antibiotics better or the IV antibiotics? I guess I should just wait until the results come back but my doctor made it sound like he is pretty confident that this is what I have.

To start, be sure that you read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread! It's packed full of important information, symptom lists, detoxing suggestions and so much more. I'm sure you will refer back to it many times - most of us do!

Most of the treatments will be up to you to do. If your doc wants you to do something you are not comfortable with or don't believe in, then you can find another doc that will be more in line with what you wish. So be sure to talk all things over with your doctor. Knowing what to expect will really help stop a lot of anxiety!!

We have some people that are doing just abx -port or oral - and some that are doing just herbals and others that are doing both. The choice is yours, as I stated above.

Although healing from a 6 yr infection won't be a walk in the park, it's not nearly impossible. I've healed from a 40+ yr infection and others have healed from 10 & 15 yr infections as well. It all depends on how compromised your immune system is, what other conditions you may be dealing with, being able to detox well enough to keep up with the toxins that are being released as the bacteria die off and being persistent basically.

We are here with you though, to help you as you go through this, so you are not alone in this! Just keep reading and learning as we've found that the more you know, the better able you are to cope with the challenges that come your way. And keep asking questions!! There are no dumb questions if you really don't know or understand.
