Crap! I can't take my tinctures!

My boatload of tinctures just arrived from Woodland Essence. I wanted to start Jap Knotweed and Bart protocol. But as Cd pointed out to me, I take flagyl!

Apparently you can't take tinctures with flagyl because of the alcohol. I will also have to stop my pinella and Burbur detox! And my Jernigan stuff!

Crap!

I know someone mentioned that I could let it sit in water for awhile and that *should* deactivate the alcohol. But I don't trust it. Better to just wait until I am off the flagyl! Darn!

Mine say to let them sit in water for a minute, but I don't know if that's to deactivate the alcohol. I didn't realize that I couldn't have alcohol with the Flagyl for the first couple months I was taking it,

so my Flagyl Herxes were complemented by a little Antabuse feeling. Not as bad as when I had a beer one weekend though. That's when I read up on it and found out it was almost the exact same composition as Antabuse.

I only take Flagyl Saturday and Sunday, though, and since I stopped taking the tinctures on the weekends the Herxing has been more tolerable.

If you're taking it everyday, then I'd imagine that they're hitting the cyst forms off pretty hard and you might want to wait til that's over to start on them. Bart Herxes can be crazy too.

It has to be hot water.

There isn't enough alcohol in tinctures to cause a reaction.

However, (just my opinion); that's a lot of stuff you're on.

Thanks Margaret. I think that's good news. Maybe the Flagyl has done its job on the cyst forms, and its just the Herxing dying down. I don't know if I should start the tinctures back through the weekend though. I've read that you should stop your tinctures for 36 to 48 hours once a week to let your body start to mount its own defense along with them. Have you heard that that works?

Utalgal I still took my tinctures, there isn't enough alcohol in them to hurt you.

I'm not worried that the alcohol in the tinctures will hurt me. I'm worried that it will interfere with the flagyl and make it useless.

Some people are very sensitive to the flagyl/alcohol interaction, while others are not -- they can't even use shampoo while on Flagyl.

My own personal experience is that the longer you are on flagyl, the less the sensitivity is. I discovered this quite by accident (took a slug from my glass of water only to find that it was actually my husband's vodka). Woops! But I had been on flagyl for a month by that time and I had no reaction at all.

At the moment, I am on Zindamax (same order to avoid alcohol) and am able to take my Byron White tinctures and can tolerate random exposure to alcohol.

The amount of alcohol in the drops of tincture you would be taking is so small, it will probably not be a problem. There is naturally occurring alcohol in a lot of foods that is in greater concentrations than your tinctures.

Ok. I just want to make sure that I'm not rendering the flagyl ineffective. I was afraid the alcohol might make it not work.

Alcohol does not render Flagyl ineffective. Alcohol consumption while taking Flagyl can (but not always) cause the same symptoms as Antabuse.

When I was taking Flagyl continuously, my sensitivity to alcohol did not decrease with time on the drug.

And I was so sensitive to alcohol, that I became severely nauseated from one drop of an alcohol-based tincture placed topically on my ankle. It took an hour for the nausea to go away.

Wow Razzle! You are super sensitive!

I guess I'll be fine as I have been taking Burbur and pinella with the flagyl and I've been fine. Guess I will try the Jap Knotweed tomorrow.

Thank you for the link. There were tons of great articles on there! I'm still reading them! You always find the best links! You and MB are gifted internet researchers!

I don't have any reactions on the flagyl, so I will slowly start to add some of these Buhner tinctures.

Ironically, utahgal, after reading other reports on here about flagyl experiences, I'd begun to wonder if it was to blame for your herxing....

It's so hard to sort through all this crap.
